What it says

Baptisms and admissions of the Truro church, printed in The Mayflower Descendant and checked against the page images. Includes “Sarah Datr of Danll Mayo of Eastham,” baptized 6 June 1725 (MD 9:77). Sarah was not baptized with Daniel and Samuel on 15 Sept 1723, which suggests she was born between then and June 1725.

For the Mulford family:

  • Thomas Mulford was one of the seven male members who formed the church when Rev. John Avery was ordained, 1 Nov 1711 (MD 9:55).
  • On 30 Nov 1726 the church asked “whether it was not according to Gospell Rule to chuse Ruleing Elders, according to the Practice of the Presbiterian churches in Scotland”; on 11 Jan 1726/7 it chose “Mr Thos Mulford Mr Constant Freman and Mr John Snow … Presbiterian Ruleing Elders” (MD 9:175). Mulford and Freeman were ordained 24 Mar 1727/8; Snow “never served in the office but was discarded for suspected Adultery” (MD 9:243).
  • 15 Sept 1723: “Mary wife of Danll Mayo” admitted, and her sons Daniel and Samuel baptized; “Dismist” was later added beside her entry (MD 9:76-77).
  • 1734: “Coffe negro servant to Elder Mulford Adult” baptized and admitted (MD 10:150-151).
