What it shows:
- Both sets of parents, from a record of the couple’s own marriage: John Short and Mary Jeffrey for the groom, Halket Pattullo and Jane Robson for the bride. The witness Andrew Pattullo was the bride’s brother, later member of the Ontario legislature.
- John G. Short was born at Newcastle, Durham County, where his father was postmaster, not at Woodstock.
- His age, 31, puts his birth about 1848, two years after the 22 Dec 1845 on his death
certificate (
death-certificate-john-short-1916). The 1900 census has December 1847 (census-1900-chicago-short). Mary’s 27 fits her birth in 1852.
