What it says
Page 172, read from the full-resolution image on 26 September 2026. The first four heads are:
- Abraham Collins: a white boy under 5 and a white woman 20-30; one man 24-36 in the slave column. Total 3.
- Hiram Collins: a white boy under 5; a man 24-36 and a woman 10-24 in the slave columns. Total 3.
- Bradley Collins: eleven people, all white.
- James Reid: a white woman 50-60; four young men 10-24 and one man 55-100 in the slave columns; one free colored man 24-36. Total 7. In his row the “4” sits in the slave males 10-24 column, the “1” in slave males 55-100, the free colored “1” in males 24-36, and the white “1” in females 50-60.
Other heads on the page include Christopher Bowling, John Lunceford, and Benjamin and Abraham Potter. Earlier readings had James as the free colored man; that was a misreading.
Other Reid households in the county (not read from the image here):
- Randolph Reid: three white boys under 5; a white woman 20-30; one free colored man.
- Stephen Reid (the first): all white; males 5-10 (2), 15-20, 20-30 and 40-50; females under 5 (2), 15-20 (2) and 30-40.
- Stephen Reid (the second): a white woman 15-20 and one free colored man.
