What it says
Prints Edmund Freeman’s will (pp. 14-15), his 1678/9 deed of gift to Matthias Ellis (pp. 16-18), the two 1682 inventories (pp. 21-22), Beauchamp’s 1649 letter (pp. 23-24) and William Paddy’s gravestone (pp. 25-26). Also the family traditions: that Edmund “came from Devonshire” and was born about 1590, the Saddle and Pillion stones (pp. 18-20). It names the wife of Lt. Matthias Ellis as “Mary Burgess,” and gives the 1659 fine for refusing to help the marshal to the elder Edmund; the records correct both.
Also Frederick Freeman’s comment on the 1659 fine, “Self-respect, doubtless, forbade a murmuring word,” and Major John Freeman’s will freeing “Tobye” and Bess (p. 29).
