Notes
Sister of George Coles of Amberley. Widow of Edmund Freeman of Pulborough. In her old age she lived with her son-in-law John Beauchamp at Reigate: in 1649 he wrote to William Paddy that “the wife’s mother is in good health, and lives with me at Ryegate” (Freeman Genealogy pp. 23-24). She was then about 80 or more (the research’s estimate), and she was buried at Reigate in February 1651/2. Her will, “Alice Freeman, Widow of Reigate, Surrey,” was proved 5 Mar 1651/2 and includes a bequest to Edmond Freeman and his wife.
Open questions
- Her parents and birth are unknown. Her brother George was born at Wootton, Somerset, about 1559, so the Coles family was probably West Country in origin.
