Other claim · Mollie's typescriptRev. Thomas Foster of Ipswich, Suffolk✕disprovenRev. Thomas's son Richard was a shipmaster of Ipswich, alive in 1639 (Lechford p. 135); this Richard was dead by 1630. Mollie says herself she could not make the link, and Whitmore never claimed it. The Foresters, Baldwin of Flanders, Charlemagne and Alfred go with it.

Notes
Of Biddenden, Kent. The administration of his estate was granted on 3 May 1630 to John Bigg, “maternal uncle of Mary, Hopestill and John Foster, children, minors”; his widow Patience renounced it.
Pane-Joyce makes him a son of Thomas Foster and Dorothy Austin, who married at Biddenden on 20 Jan 1579/80; Dorothy married (2) John Besbedge at Biddenden on 31 Oct 1586. If so, the 1609 bequest of John Besbeech to “Richard Foster and Patience his wife” came from Richard’s stepfather [inferred].
When the Consistory Court of Canterbury confirmed Smallhope Bigg’s will on 4 Apr 1639, it still styled his widow “Patience Bigg alias Foster, wife of Richard Foster,” although Richard had died by 1630 (Waters, Gleanings 1:21).
Mollie (pp. 115-117) makes him a son of Rev. Thomas Foster of Ipswich and hangs a descent from the Foresters of Northumberland, Baldwin of Flanders, Charlemagne and Alfred the Great on that link. Rev. Thomas’s son Richard was an Ipswich shipmaster alive in 1639, so they were different men.
Mollie's typescript
Mollie says he never came to New England, married Patience Bigg and is little known; she makes him a son of Rev. Thomas Foster of Ipswich, but the records show the minister's son Richard was another man.
Richard Foster (2) born in England , did not come to New England. He married Patience Bigg. Little is known of Richard.

Checked against the records
- DisprovenRichard Foster was a son of Rev. Thomas Foster (will 1628)
Rev. Thomas Foster of Ipswich, Suffolk, made his will on 22 Sept 1638, and his son Richard, an Ipswich shipmaster, was alive in 1639 (Lechford). Patience Bigg's husband was Richard Foster of Biddenden, dead by May 1630, whom Bisbee's Foster genealogy (1956) makes a son of Thomas Foster of Biddenden.

The chain is copied from Pierce's Foster Genealogy (1899) and is legend: William the Conqueror's wife Matilda was a daughter of Baldwin V, not Baldwin IV. Mollie could not connect Rev. Thomas Foster to the Foresters, and he was not the father of Patience Bigg's husband in any case.
