Notes
Married James Bate of Lydd, 6 June 1580, as “Mary Martine(?).” Watkins queries the surname (NEHGR 51:270). WikiTree (Foster-1884, citing Whitmore) makes her a sister of Rachel (Martin) Bigg, which would make her granddaughter Mary Bate and Mary’s husband Hopestill Foster second cousins.
Open questions
- Her surname, and whether she was Rachel (Martin) Bigg’s sister. If she was, James Martin and Joan Adam are ancestors twice over.
Mollie's typescript
Mollie's Bate chart gives her marriage to James Bate, yeoman of Lydd, on 15 June 1580 (the records give 6 June).
