Notes
Married Isaac Chittenden at Scituate in April 1646: “Martha [Vinall] and Isack Chittenden, Apr. -, 1646” (Scituate VR, vol. 2).
Her mother was the widow Anna Vinall, who came to Scituate in 1636 with three children, Martha the eldest. Her brother Stephen Vinall left a note: “as I had the relation from my owne mother, I was born about the middle of Dec. 1630. We came into New England in the year 1636, and into the town of Scituate the same year” (Deane, History of Scituate, pp. 364-365). Deane calls her mother “this enterprising widow”: Anna built a house in 1637 on the brook north of the later Stockbridge mill pond, was one of the Conihasset partners in 1646, and died in 1664 (p. 365). All this is compiled.
On 1 Nov 1676 the Court granted her and her son Israel administration of her husband Isaac’s estate (PCR 5:211).
