Notes

Widow, a commoner at Ipswich in 1641: “LORD, Katherine, widow. Was a commoner, 1641” (Hammatt p. 208). Felt says Robert Lord “appears to have been son of Widow Catharine Lord.”

The 1603 will of John Lorde of Redriffe, clothier, mentions “two houses in Sudbury,” a “father Anthony Lorde” and a “brother Robert Lorde” (Essex Institute Historical Collections 17:73). That brother Robert could be Katherine’s husband, which would bring the family from Sudbury, Suffolk, and make Anthony the grandfather of Robert of Ipswich. This is not proved.

Mollie's typescript· 1 passage · 1 claim checked

What Mollie wrote about her in The Holbrook and Low Families, and her claims about her checked against the records.

  1. Mollie says she came from Sudbury, Suffolk, with her son Robert, and had a grant of land at Ipswich in 1641.

Robert Lord and his mother, Katherine Lord came from Sudbury, Suffolk, England ... Katherine Lord had a grant of land in Ipswich in 1641.

Checked against the records

  • Unlikely
Robert Lord's father was Anthony Lord

More likely his grandfather. The 1603 will of John Lorde of Redriffe, clothier, names "two houses in Sudbury", his "father Anthony Lorde" and his "brother Robert Lorde" (EIHC 17:73). Felt says only that Robert "appears to have been son of Widow Catharine Lord"; his father is unknown.
