Father
Amos Sylvester Jr.

Born 14 Sept 1707, married Patience Palmer 7 Feb 1732, as Stackpole has it ("had a son Job, born 1742"); not checked further. Stackpole carries the line up through Amos (b. 1685) and Joseph (b. 1638) to Richard Sylvester of Weymouth, who came about 1630 and married Naomi Torrey in 1632.

Notes

A Revolutionary soldier, father of Job Sylvester Jr. and very probably great-grandfather of Mary Abigail (Rice) Ellingwood. Born at Hanover in Plymouth County, he married Margaret Stetson there in 1765 and later moved to Durham, Maine, where he died in 1832. The DAR, from his pension file: “Job Sylvester (1742-1832) was placed on the pension roll, 1818, for service as private, 1775-76, in Captain Reed’s company, Colonel Bailey’s Massachusetts regiment. He was born in Hanover, Mass.; died in Durham, Me.” (source). Stackpole also calls him a “Revolutionary soldier” and names among his children Job Jr. (1767); Amos, killed in the War of 1812; Cynthia (m. Ezekiel Merrill of Freeport, 1798); Deborah (m. William Tuttle of Pownal); Zilpha (m. Zebulon York, 1810); Roland; and Joseph (source).

The Stetson, Phillips and Torrey wives of this line are Plymouth County families; a Mayflower descent through them is plausible but has not been looked for.
