Notes

Apprenticed to Thomas Chandler of Andover, he ran away in 1662, and his brother Moses burned the indenture. Brigham traces Edith Kermit (Carow) Roosevelt’s descent from him: Hopestill > Daniel (m. Anna Geer 1700) > Daniel (1701-1802) > Capt. Daniel (1750-1832, m. Mehitable Putnam, daughter of Gen. Israel Putnam) > Gen. Daniel (1799-1882) > Gertrude Elizabeth (m. Charles Carow 1859) > Edith (b. 1861, m. Theodore Roosevelt 1886).

  2. Mollie names Charles A. Dana and Theodore Roosevelt's second wife among his descendants (Brigham bears out the Roosevelt descent, but Dana's was not found).

Job Tyler has many descendants, and a number of notable ones, of whom I am able to mention only Charles A. Dana, who descended through Job's son Hopestill. From this son also, came Theodore Rosevelt's second wife

Checked against the records

  • Possible
Charles A. Dana descended from Job Tyler through Hopestill

Not traced. Dana is not in the index of Brigham's Tyler Genealogy (1912). His mother was a Denison, and Brigham records Hopestill-line Tylers marrying Denisons, but no chain has been found.

  • Proven
Theodore Roosevelt's second wife, Edith, descended from Job through Hopestill

True, by Brigham's Tyler Genealogy: Job > Hopestill > Daniel > Daniel > Capt. Daniel (m. Mehitable Putnam, daughter of Gen. Israel Putnam) > Gen. Daniel > Gertrude (m. Charles Carow) > Edith Kermit Carow, who married Roosevelt in 1886. Her children are descendants; his daughter Alice, by his first wife, is not.
