Hannah Sawyer

Also Hannah Converse

Born at Woburn, Massachusetts, in 1689, probably a daughter of Joshua and Sarah Sawyer, she married Josiah Converse there in 1706 and bore at least nine children, among them Col. James Converse of Brookfield and probably Josiah Converse (1710). The family moved to Leicester about 1727 and later to Brookfield, where she died in 1747. Probably the grandmother of Col. Israel Converse.

Notes

Grandmother of Col. Israel Converse (on the one doubt, see Josiah Converse (1710)). Born at Woburn in 1689, a daughter of Joshua and Sarah Sawyer, she married Josiah Converse there on 30 Dec 1706; her elder sister Abigail had married his brother John Converse in 1699, and a Mary Sawyer, probably another sister, his brother Robert in 1698 (source). She bore at least nine children between 1707 and 1729, among them Josiah (1710), Jesse (1720), Jude (1723) and Col. James Converse of Brookfield (1725). The family moved to Leicester about 1727 and later to Brookfield, where she died in June 1747 (source). Since the other reading of Israel’s descent runs through her sister Abigail, the Sawyer ancestry is the family’s either way.
