Franz Kuchenmeister
Probably the father of Joseph George Kuchenmeister, who married Theresa M. Panian. Born in Bavaria in 1844 or 1848, he came with his parents, John and Magdalena, to a farm near Delano, Minnesota, by about 1865; by the county history he married first Barbara Blatz and then Margaret Borrell, and in 1907 moved to Almena, Wisconsin. As the Ancestry tree has it, he died at Rice Lake in 1938.

The 1922 county history has "Nov. 26, 1844", and he was 25 in the 1870 census; with 1848 he would have been 17 when his son Jacob was born. To decide.

Notes
Joseph Kuchenmeister’s father. He came from Bavaria with his parents, John and Magdalena, and his brothers and sisters Jacob, Valentine, Barbara and Dorothy, forty-six days by sailing ship; from St. Paul they “drove with ox teams to a farm in Wright County, near the present site of Delano” (source). The book dates it 1869, but his son Jacob was born in Minnesota in 1866, and John Kuchenmeister helped build the first Catholic church near Delano, finished in 1865: the family was there by about 1865. “The nearest village in the early days was Greenwood, Watertown was the next. From these two places provisions were brought in afoot, while grist was taken there with the ox team.” He took 80 acres of his own, four miles west of Delano, put up a log cabin and later “a good set of frame buildings”; in 1892 he was overseer of road district no. 5 in the town of Franklin, and in 1894 his team ran away trying “to beat a switch engine” (source). He retired to Delano in 1902 and in 1907 moved to 17 acres on the edge of Almena, Wisconsin, near his son Joseph.
