Notes

Wife of John MacDougall the bard. Widowed by March 1805, she came home to Glen Urquhart with her children and lived at Ailean Mór, where her youngest son was born. Blair calls her “a pious, prudent, wise woman, of the family of the Bethunes of the Isle of Skye descended from the Bethunes of Mull and Isla” (source); that descent is family tradition, with no pedigree.
