About it

Duff Pattullo, premier of British Columbia 1933-1941 and first cousin of Ruth (Short) Ellingwood, in a dark jacket and pale trousers, his hat and cane in one hand, shakes hands with a small boy in braces on a playing field, with children and a pram behind them. The City of Vancouver Archives’ print is dated about 1936; the occasion is not recorded. It shows the premier of the Bloody Sunday years, then in his sixties, the man of whom his thesis biographer wrote, “Pattullo not only governed, he ruled.”
