Dwyer and Associated Families: Master Research
Research file for the Dwyer line from Jerome Edwin Dwyer back through Edwin Cornelius Dwyer, Cornelius Sylvester Dwyer, and John Dwyer and Mary Ryan, with the families that married in: Tisdell and Connelly (Martha Tisdell's side), and Flynn, Paulson and Owens (Winifred Flynn's side). One section per person: vital facts, how the link to the parents is supported, the life as the records show it, anecdotes and notable details, spouse and children, open questions, and sources. The tree outline is in Part One; FamilySearch problems are collected in Part Three.
Last revised: 5 October 2026 (first edition).
Ratings. Used where they matter, not on every line.
- How we know it: [D] Documented (a primary record, or an index or transcript of one); [C] Compiled (an online tree, Find a Grave, a county history); [I] Inferred (our own reasoning from the records); [T] Tradition (family memory, no record).
- How sure we are, for links and disputed points: Proven, Probable, Possible, Disproven.
Abbreviations. FS, FamilySearch (tree IDs like L56K-15K; record IDs like 1:1:MVP9-3RM; image IDs like 3:1:33S7-9RJ5-HTS). FaG, Find a Grave. MN, Minnesota. "Index read" means the indexed entry was read but not the image; "image read" means the page itself was examined.
Spellings met in the records: Dwyer, Dwire, Dwyre, O'Dwyer; Tisdell, Tisdale, Tisdele, Tisdall ("Tisdow" in family memory); Connelly, Connolly, Conally, Conley; Flynn, Flinn, Flyn.
What this pass found
- Edwin C. Dwyer was born 8 July 1897, not 1901. His WWI draft card (Aug 1918), the VA master index, his WWII draft card (Feb 1942), and his Find a Grave memorial all give 8 July 1897; every census from 1910 to 1950 agrees within a year. The FS tree's 1901 is wrong.
- The Edwin C. Dwyer Company was a printing-machinery business, run by Edwin and Winifred together. Edwin's 1969 obituary says he came to Seattle from San Francisco in 1935 and started a printing-machinery sales and service firm that year. The 1950 census lists Edwin as proprietor in the "printing machine" business, working 48 hours a week, and Winifred as a stenographer in the same business, working 40 hours a week without pay as a family worker. Winifred's 2003 obituary calls her the retired owner of the company. Jerome's 2015 obituary says he spent much of his life in the family business. This fits the family memory of Winifred running the books and office while Edwin did the hands-on work.
- Edwin and Winifred married 26 Nov 1935 in Portland, Oregon, where her parents lived (Multnomah County marriage register, vol. 76, p. 453; image read). The FS tree's "1935 California" is wrong as to place.
- The FS tree has merged Cornelius's father with a different man. "John Frederick Dwyer" (d. 1895, buried Calvary, Faribault) was the husband of Mary (Shanahan) Dwyer of Cannon Lake, Rice County. Cornelius's father was John Dwyer, husband of Mary Ryan, found at Black Brook, Clinton Co., NY (1860, 1870), Cohoes, NY (1875), Birch Cooley Township, Renville Co., MN (1880) and Bandon Township, Renville Co. (1885). A FamilySearch contributor separated the two men in 2017-2019 with "DO NOT MERGE" notes; another contributor merged them again in Sept 2024. The Kilkenny ancestry on the tree (Gowran baptism 1816, parents Martin Dwyer and Mary Walsh, Freshford marriage 1847) has no record tying it to Cornelius's father.
- Mary Ryan is confirmed as Cornelius's mother by his 1941 California death index entry (mother's maiden name Ryan) and by records of four of his siblings that name their parents as John Dwyer and Mary Ryan. Her Irish origin is not established.
- The Dwyers and Tisdells were next-door neighbors in 1880. Both households are on the same census page in Birch Cooley Township; Cornelius (18 in 1880) married Martha Tisdell (16 in 1880) about two years later.
- Martha Tisdell's mother, Elizabeth Connelly, has the wrong parents in the tree. Her own 1913 death record names her father as Thomas Connelly (mother's surname indexed as "Burchis"); her brother Michael Thomas Connelly was born at Manchester, England. The tree's Thomas O'Donnell and Mary Lonergan (who died in Manhattan and in Perth, Ontario) are unrelated.
- Winifred Flynn's Swedish line is documented. Her mother Anna Mary Paulson was born in Sweden in December 1871, came over in 1891, and was the daughter of Nels Paulson and Christine Anderson, both born in Sweden (Oregon death record, 1942).
- Winifred's grandfather James Murray Flynn was baptized in Ontario in Sept 1847, son of John Flynn and Anne Murray; enlisted in the U.S. Army at St. Louis on 16 Oct 1865 at age 18; and later drew an Indian Wars pension. A John Flyn, aged 24, of Mallow, Co. Cork, came to Emily Township, Ontario, with the Peter Robinson settlers of 1825; he is a candidate for James's father (Possible).
- Cornelius's Montana interval (about 1906-1908) coincides with two of his siblings living in Butte (his sister Kate Dalton died there in 1908; his brother John J. married there in 1905). His son Raymond was born in Montana about 1907.

Part Two: The people
1. Jerome Edwin "Jerry" Dwyer (1939 - 2015)
Vital facts
- Born 25 June 1939, Seattle [D, obituary; FS]. In the April 1940 census as "Jerome E," age 0 [D].
- Married 15 Oct 1961, Shoreline, King County, Patricia Ann Hatten (5 June 1940, Seattle - 16 Oct 2009, Seattle) [C, FS; record not seen]. His obituary says they were married 49 years, which does not fit a 1961 marriage and her 2009 death (48 years); loose wording [I].
- Died 27 April 2015, Seattle, aged 75 [D, obituary]. Buried at Shoreline (FaG 146029243, Holyrood Cemetery per the FaG index) [C].
Link: Proven (1940 and 1950 censuses in Edwin and Winifred's household; both parents' obituaries; his own).
Life
- 1940 census: Tract B-4, Seattle, with parents and sister Patricia (3) [D].
- 1950 census: Seattle, age 10, with parents and sister [D].
- Blanchet High School, Seattle, in its first graduating class, as was Patricia Hatten [D, obituary].
- Living at Alderwood Manor in 1969 [D, father's obituary index].
- Worked in the family firm. His obituary describes the Edwin C. Dwyer Company as the "family printing machinery business" [D, Seattle Times, 10 May 2015, via legacy.com].
- By 2003 his mother was described as the company's retired owner [D], so Jerome's ownership, if he had it, came after his mother's retirement [I].
- Funeral Mass, Christ the King Catholic Church, 405 N 117th St, Seattle, Friday 15 May 2015; Harvey Family Funeral Home [D, obituary].
Family memory and the records. Family memory has Jerome later starting "his own franchise" of his father's San Francisco printing company in Seattle [T]. The records found so far point to a single family business founded in Seattle in 1935 by Edwin, worked in by Winifred, later owned by Winifred, and worked in by Jerome [D]. No record of a separate franchise or of a San Francisco firm has been found. Seattle city directories and Washington corporation records would settle it.
Children (as named in his obituary): Lynn (Mrs. John Ellingwood), Eric, Jennifer. Eight grandchildren named there, among them Jordan, Ross and Lauren. Sister: Patricia Mulka.
Open questions: the 1961 marriage record; when Jerome took over the company and when it closed; whether he served in the military (not mentioned in the obituary).

2. Edwin Cornelius Dwyer (1897 - 1969)
Vital facts
- Born 8 July 1897, Minnesota [D, three records]. Place: "Redwood Co., Minnesota" on his 1918 draft card; "Birchcorley [Birch Cooley], Minn." on his 1942 draft card [D, images read]. Birch Cooley Township is in Renville County, on the Redwood County line. The FS tree's 8 July 1901 is wrong.
- Married 26 Nov 1935, Multnomah County, Oregon, Winifred Flynn [D, Multnomah County marriage register index, vol. 76, p. 453, "Dwyer, Edwin C. ... 11-26-35 ... Flynn, Winifred"; image read].
- Died 11 Sep 1969, Seattle [D, Washington Death Index; obituary]. Buried Holyrood Cemetery, Shoreline, Section K, Lot 1009, Site 6 [C, FaG 52395538].
Link: Proven (1905 Minnesota census, 1910 and 1920 censuses in Cornelius's household; 1918 card naming "C. S. Dwyer" as nearest relative; 1942 card naming "Mrs. C. S. Dwyer"; 1941 obituary index of Cornelius listing son Edwin).
Life
- 1905 Minnesota census: "E Cornelius Dwyer," born 1898, Newton Township, Otter Tail County (near New York Mills) [D, index read].
- 1910: Turlock, Stanislaus County, California, age 12 [D].
- 24 Aug 1918, WWI draft registration (the registration for men who had turned 21 since June 1918), Stanislaus County [D, image read]:
- Home: Route 4, Box 135, Turlock.
- Employer: Turlock Irrigation District, Camp 12, Turlock.
- Father's birthplace: given as Troy, New York (see Cornelius, section 4).
- Nearest relative: C. S. Dwyer, same address.
- Eyes gray, hair black.
- WWI service: the VA master index carries a service entry dated 8 May 1919, Turlock [D, index]; his obituary calls him an Army veteran of WWI [D]; the 1950 census marks him a WWI veteran [D]. Unit and dates of service not found.
- 1920: at home in Turlock, age 22, single [D].
- 1930: not found under his own name. His parents' San Francisco household lists a "daughter Elizabeth C., 32, single, born Minnesota" and a "son Edward C., 25" [D, image read]. Edwin was 32 in 1930. Whether "Elizabeth C." is Edwin written in error is open; see Cornelius's children (section 4).
- 1935: living in San Francisco (1940 census residence question) [D].
- 1935: married Winifred Flynn in Portland in November; moved to Seattle that year and started a printing-machinery sales and service firm (obituary, as transcribed on FaG) [D].
- 1940 census: Seattle (Tract B-4), age 42, with Winifred, Patricia (3) and Jerome (newborn) [D].
- 14 Feb 1942, WWII draft registration, Local Board No. 4, Seattle [D, image read]:
- Residence: 5605 6th Ave. S.W., Seattle.
- Born 8 July 1897, "Birchcorley," Minnesota.
- Contact who will always know his address: Mrs. C. S. Dwyer, 139 Edinburgh St., San Francisco (his mother).
- Employer: Harry W. Brintnall Co., 2306 3rd Ave., Seattle.
- 5 ft 8 in, about 155 lb, brown eyes, brown hair, light complexion.
- Other obvious marks: end of the second finger of the left hand missing ("End off of second finger left hand").
- 1950 census, Seattle [D, index read]:
- Edwin, 52: proprietor, own business, industry "Printing Machine"; worked 48 hours the previous week, 52 weeks the previous year; WWI veteran.
- Winifred, 48: stenographer, same industry; worked 40 hours; class of worker "NP," the 1950 code for working without pay in a family business.
- Patricia, 13; Jerome, 10.
- Obituary, Seattle Times, 12 Sep 1969, p. 70 (transcribed on FaG; summarized here):
- Came to Seattle from San Francisco in 1935 and started a printing-machinery sales and service firm that year.
- Army veteran of World War I.
- Member of the Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society and the Craftsmen's Club. The Craftsmen's Club was very probably the Seattle club of the International Association of Printing House Craftsmen [I].
- Residence 5605 Sixth Ave. S.W.
- Rosary at Hoffner's Fisher-Kalfus chapel; Requiem Mass at St. Alphonsus.
- Survivors: wife Winifred I.; son Jerome E. (Alderwood Manor); daughter Mrs. Patricia Mulka (Seattle); brother Raymond (San Bruno, CA); sisters Agnes Boudinot, Nell Golden (Redwood City) and Veronica Newman (Sacramento).
- The summary of the transcription gives his retirement as 1944, which conflicts with the 1950 census showing him running the business full time. Not resolved; the original page should be read.
The company. What is documented [D]: a printing-machinery sales and service business in Seattle, founded 1935 (obituary); Edwin proprietor and Winifred working in it in 1950 (census); Winifred its retired owner by 2003 (obituary); Jerome working in it (obituary). What is not yet explained: Edwin's 1942 employer, Harry W. Brintnall Co. of 2306 3rd Ave., not identified. Family memory places a Dwyer printing company in San Francisco first [T]; nothing found supports or rules that out. Winifred worked for "paper jobbers" in San Francisco in 1930 (section 3), so both had ties to the printing trade before they married [I].
Spouse: Winifred I. Flynn (section 3).
Children: Patricia M. (b. 1937, Washington; Mrs. Mulka by 1969); Jerome Edwin (1939-2015). The FS tree also attaches Raymond P. Dwyer (LHKD-HJH) as their child; Raymond was Edwin's brother, born in Montana about 1907, and should be detached from Edwin and Winifred.
Open questions: WWI service record (unit, dates); his whereabouts and work in 1930; the Harry W. Brintnall Co.; the company's address and corporate records; the original 1969 obituary page.
Sources: WWI draft registration, Stanislaus Co., CA (FS 1:1:KZK4-G58; image 3:1:33SQ-G1QY-KBF, read); VA Master Index (FS 1:1:Q5L4-17MM, QPK7-HKMC); WWII draft registration, Washington (FS 1:1:QPCX-XN5P; image 3:1:3Q9M-CSYY-RS95-2, read); 1905 MN census (FS 1:1:SP32-ZPV); 1910 census (FS 1:1:MVP9-3R7); 1920 census (FS 1:1:MHH9-QWS); 1930 census, San Francisco ED 61 (image 3:1:33SQ-GR4Z-LFY, read); 1940 census (FS 1:1:K933-6XG); 1950 census (FS 1:1:6X14-WQF4; image 3:1:3QHK-SQHW-FSZ2-H); Oregon County Marriages (FS 1:1:CYC5-FGZM; image 3:1:3Q9M-CSF1-W9ZC-F, read); Washington Death Index (FS 1:1:QLWM-LNCL); Seattle Daily Times obituary index (FS 1:1:Q5MX-4Z1H, Q5MX-748M); FaG 52395538; FS LHKD-HQ6.
3. Winifred I. (Flynn) Dwyer (1901 - 2003)
Vital facts
- Born 1 Nov 1901, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri [D, Social Security Death Index for the date; C, FaG for the place]. Censuses give 1902.
- Married 26 Nov 1935, Portland, Oregon, Edwin C. Dwyer [D].
- Died 30 May 2003, Seattle, aged 101 [D, Washington Death Index; SSDI; obituary]. Buried Holyrood Cemetery, Shoreline, Section K, Lot 1009, Site 7, beside Edwin [C, FaG 52396124]. Burial 4 June 2003 [D, obituary].
Link: Proven (1910 and 1920 censuses in William C. Flynn's household; FaG family links).
Life
- Fourth of eleven children of William Clifford Flynn and Anna Mary Paulson [D censuses; C FaG]. Probably named for her aunt Winifred Ann Flynn (1875-1941) [I].
- 1910 and 1920: St. Joseph, Missouri (Ward 2) [D].
- 1930 census: a lodger in San Francisco, 28, single [D, index read]. The FS tree records her 1930 occupation as stenographer for paper jobbers (wholesalers of printing paper), taken from the census [C; image not read].
- Married Edwin in Portland in 1935; her parents were living in Portland by 1930 [D].
- 1940: Seattle, with Edwin and the two children [D].
- 1950: stenographer in the family printing-machinery business, 40 hours a week, unpaid family worker [D].
- Obituary, Seattle Times, 2 June 2003 (transcribed on FaG; summarized): widow of Edwin C. Dwyer; survived by son Jerome E. and his wife Patricia, daughter Patricia Mulka, five grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; described as "the retired owner of Edwin C. Dwyer Co. of Seattle"; Rosary and funeral Mass at St. Alphonsus Church; remembrances to the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, in care of Sr. Joan Flynn, SNJM, The Dalles, Oregon [D].
- Family memory: she kept the books, the numbers and the budget of the business while Edwin did the hands-on work [T]. The 1950 census and her obituary agree with this [D].
- An index of public records (1994-1999) places a "Winnifred A. Flynn" in Long Beach, California [C]. This is very probably another woman [I] and should not be attached.
Siblings (FaG family links; censuses) [C/D]: James William (1896-1983); Col. Richard Theodore (1897-1996); Hubert Leo (1899-1998); Anna Pauline, Mrs. Lemarte (1903-1999); Bernard Francis "Barney" (1904-2003); Sister Margaret Mary Losa Flynn, SNJM (1906-1995); Joseph Emmett (1908-1966); Louis Edward (1910-2000); Paul I. (1912-1981); Sister Beulah Patricia Ann Flynn, SNJM (1914-1994). Two of her sisters became nuns of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.
Open questions: where she worked in San Francisco (1930 census image, SF directories 1928-1935); when she took over the company and when she retired.
Sources: 1910 census (FS 1:1:M2TC-RXB); 1920 census (FS 1:1:M849-F3L); 1930 census (FS 1:1:XCN4-T7V); 1940 and 1950 censuses as for Edwin; SSDI (FS 1:1:J1YW-SQ9); Washington Death Index (FS 1:1:QLWM-TJMN); Seattle Times obituary, 2 June 2003, transcribed at FaG 52396124 (read); FS 9N76-Z7J.
4. Cornelius Sylvester "Con" Dwyer (1862 - 1941)
Vital facts
- Born 19 March 1862, New York [D, California Death Index; FaG]. Place within New York: his parents were at Black Brook, Clinton County, in 1860 and 1870, so Black Brook is likely [I]; his son's 1918 draft card gives his father's birthplace as Troy, New York [D, secondary information]. The family was at Cohoes, next to Troy, in 1875. Open.
- Married Martha Ann Tisdell, about 1882. The FS tree gives 2 Oct 1882, Birch Cooley Township, with no source [C]. The 1930 census gives his age at first marriage as 20 and hers as 18, which fits 1882 [D].
- Died 18 Oct 1941, San Francisco [D, California Death Index, which names his mother's maiden name as Ryan]. Buried Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma, Section U, Row 32, Grave 57 [C, FaG 187956491, where he is "Con"]. Martha is in the same grave.
Link to John Dwyer and Mary Ryan: Proven. Named in their household in 1870 (Black Brook), 1875 (Cohoes) and 1880 (Birch Cooley) [D]; mother's maiden name Ryan on his death index entry [D]; his siblings' records name John Dwyer and Mary Ryan as their parents [D].
Life
- 1870 census: Black Brook, Clinton Co., NY, age 8 [D].
- 1875 New York state census: Cohoes, Albany Co., age 12 [D].
- 1880 census: Birch Cooley Township, Renville Co., MN, age 18, "at home"; both index entries point to the same page image as Henry Tisdell's family [D, index read; image 3:1:33SQ-GYBJ-95ZT].
- Children born in Minnesota from 1885. Henry was born 14 Feb 1889 at Norfolk (Norfolk Township, Renville Co.) [D, Henry's WWI card]; Edwin 8 July 1897 at Birch Cooley [D]; Lawrence 5 May 1900 at Morton [D, Lawrence's WWII card].
- 1895 Minnesota census: Norfolk Township, Renville Co., with Martha, Henry (6) and Agnes (2) [D].
- 1905 Minnesota census: Newton Township, Otter Tail Co., age 42 [D]. In 1916 Peter Nuens, father of Charlotte (Nuens) Tisdell, wife of Martha's brother Edward, was living at New York Mills, the village in Newton Township (Curtiss-Wedge, 1916) [C].
- About 1906-1908: in Montana. Son Raymond was born there about 1907 [D, 1910-1940 censuses]. His sister Kate (Dwyer) Dalton died at Butte on 23 Oct 1908, and his brother John J. Dwyer married at Butte on 1 Oct 1905 [D]. That the family was in Butte is Possible [I].
- 1910 census: Turlock, Stanislaus Co., California [D]. In the household: Martha, Henry (21), Agnes (17), Veronica (14), Edwin (12), Lawrence (10), John F. (8), Ellen (5), Raymond (3), and Patrick Ryan, 60, born Ireland, came to the U.S. 1870, single, listed as "partner" [D]. A Ryan in the house of Mary Ryan's son suggests kin [I]; his relationship is unknown.
- 1918: Route 4, Box 135, Turlock (son's draft card) [D].
- 1920 census: Turlock Judicial Township [D].
- 1930 census: San Francisco (ED 61), home owned, valued at $5,300; occupation retired farmer; wife recorded as "Mary A." [D, image read].
- 1935-1940: same San Francisco house; in 1940 with son Raymond, daughter-in-law Sera, and grandchildren Raymond (6) and Joan (5) [D]. In Feb 1942 his widow was at 139 Edinburgh St., San Francisco [D], which was very probably the family house [I].
- Obituary, San Francisco Chronicle, 20 Oct 1941 (index read; image restricted to GenealogyBank) [D]: survivors indexed as Martha Dwyer; Mrs. Boudinot, Mrs. Newman and Mrs. Golden; Henry, Edwin, Laurence, John and Raymond Dwyer; and a Margaret Dwyer (relationship not shown in the index). Mortician Harry G. Bedigian appears in the same index entry.
Spouse: Martha Ann Tisdell (section 5).
Children (order of birth; links Proven unless marked)
- Mary Elizabeth (9 Feb 1885 - 11 Mar 1889) and James Joseph (26 Mar 1887 - 13 Mar 1889): on the FS tree with no sources; died two days apart [C]. Possible until a record is found.
- Henry Valentine (14 Feb 1889, Norfolk Twp - 1962, California; the California Death Index has 29 Nov 1962, the tree 26 Nov 1962 at Hornitos, Mariposa Co.) [D].
- William (18 Jan 1891 - 10 Sep 1891): tree only, no sources [C].
- Agnes Lenora (b. 20 Oct 1892 per tree, 1893 per censuses - 1976); married Edgar John Boudinot, San Francisco, 5 June 1919; the marriage record names her parents Cornelius S. Dwyer and Martha Ann Tisdell [D].
- Martha Veronica (b. about 1895-1897 per censuses - 8 June 1973, Sacramento); married Theodore Neuman, San Francisco, 22 Sep 1926 [D]. The tree's birth of 18 Aug 1893 at New York Mills conflicts with the 1895 census, which does not list her, and with her ages in 1910 and 1920 [I].
- Edwin Cornelius (8 July 1897 - 1969).
- Lawrence Leo (5 May 1900, Morton - 31 Aug 1966, San Francisco) [D].
- John Francis (6 June 1901 - 28 Nov 1949, San Francisco) [D index]. Ages in 1910 and 1920 put his birth in 1902 [D].
- Ellen Theresa "Nell" (24 Oct 1904 - 19 Sep 1982, San Mateo Co.); married Walter Joseph Golden [D].
- Raymond P. (about 1907, Montana - after 1969; of San Bruno in 1969) [D].
- "Elizabeth C." appears only in the 1930 census, as a daughter aged 32, born Minnesota [D, image read]. No Elizabeth is in the 1895, 1905, 1910 or 1920 households, and Edwin, who was 32 that year, is missing from the 1930 census. The FS person L6KD-RL4 ("Elizabeth C Dwyer, 1898-2000") rests on this one entry, and her death year has no source. Possible at best; it may be Edwin recorded in error.
- A "Cornelius Francis Dwyer" (b. 11 Nov 1888, California - 13 Jan 1941), buried at Holy Cross in a different section, is attached to Cornelius's FS profile as a source. He was born in California, where this family did not live until about 1909. Disproven as a member of this family; detach.
Open questions: place of birth (Black Brook or Troy); the 1882 marriage record (Renville County); the 1900 census (not found under Dwyer, Dwire or Dyer); his Montana years; his death certificate (would give birthplace and parents' names as the family knew them); Patrick Ryan.

5. Martha Ann Tisdell (1863 - 1947)
Vital facts
- Born 7 July 1863, Minnesota [C, FS; censuses give 1863-1864; FaG gives 1862]. The family was at Burnsville, Dakota Co., in 1865 [D], so Dakota County or St. Paul is likely [I].
- Married Cornelius S. Dwyer about 1882, at 18 [D, 1930 census].
- Died 13 May 1947, Santa Clara County, California [D, California Death Index]. Buried with Cornelius at Holy Cross, Colma (U-32-57) [C, FaG 107436676].
Link to Henry Tisdell and Elizabeth Connelly: Proven (1865, 1870, 1875 and 1880 censuses; the California Death Index gives her maiden name Tisdell).
Life
- 1865 Minnesota census: Burnsville, Dakota Co., "Martha A Tisdale" [D].
- 1870 census: Birch Cooley Township, age 7 (the household's children are indexed under the surname "Chisom"; see section 10) [D].
- 1875 and 1880: Birch Cooley, at school in 1880 [D].
- Mother of at least eleven children (section 4).
- Recorded as "Mary A." in the 1930 census [D].

8. John Dwyer (c. 1813/1820 - after 1885)
Vital facts
- Born in Ireland. His age in the records: 47 in 1860 (b. c. 1813); 47 in 1870 (c. 1823); 55 in 1875 (c. 1820); 63 in 1880 (c. 1817); 71 in 1885 (c. 1814) [D]. Parents and county unknown.
- Married Mary Ryan, before 1848 [D/I]. Place unknown.
- Died after the 1885 Minnesota census. No death or burial found.
Link to Cornelius: Proven (section 4).
Where the family lived
- About 1848: Canajoharie, Montgomery County, New York (daughter Mary Ellen's birth, per FS tree) [C].
- About 1852-1854: Ohio (son William's birthplace in 1870 and in the tree) [D/C].
- About 1853-1855: Moriah, Essex County, New York (daughter Mary Ann's birthplace on her 1879 marriage record) [D]. The iron mines at Mineville in Moriah were being opened in earnest from 1853 [C, Adirondack History Center].
- 1860 census: Town of Black Brook, Clinton County, New York [D]. John 47, Mary 33, Ellen 11, William 9, Mary Ann 7, Margaret 4, Kate 2, John 0.
- 1870 census: Black Brook [D]. John 47, Mary 48, William 18 (born Ohio), Mary A. 17, Margaret 13, Catharine 12, John 10, Cornelius 8. Black Brook was the seat of the J. & J. Rogers iron works (forges, charcoal kilns and some 50,000 acres) [C, Watson 1869 via localwiki; Clinton County Historical Association].
- 1875 New York state census: Cohoes, Albany County [D]. "John O Dwyer" 55, Mary 49, William 21, Maryanne 19, Margaret 18, Catherine 16, John 14, Cornelius 12, and two boarders, Anne Ryan, 28, and Hanora Cahill, 15. Cohoes was the home of the Harmony Mills, then the largest cotton-mill complex in the country, with a workforce largely of young Irish and French-Canadian women [C, Wikipedia]. The occupations on the 1875 page have not been read.
- 1880 census: Birch Cooley Township, Renville County, Minnesota [D]. "John Dwire" 63, farmer; Mary 54; John 20; Cornelius 18. The Henry Tisdell household is on the same page.
- 1885 Minnesota census: Bandon Township, Renville County [D]. John 71; Mary 62.
The FamilySearch merge. The tree person L6KD-V4D, "John Frederick Dwyer," now combines two men:
- John Dwyer of Cannon Lake and Wells Township, Rice County, MN, husband of Mary Bridget (Shanahan) Dwyer (1827-1907): 1860 census at Vivian, Waseca Co. (with Timothy, Edward, John, Michael); 1875 Minnesota census at Wells; 1880 census at Wells (John 67, Mary 67, Michael 21); died 1 Dec 1895 at Wells, aged 79; buried Calvary Cemetery, Faribault (FaG 86747524, whose biography quotes a 1938 parish history on Mr. and Mrs. John (Shanahan) Dwyer settling near Cannon Lake in 1855) [D/C].
- John Dwyer, husband of Mary Ryan, the man above.
- The change history shows contributor Foleydb separating them in Sept 2017 and Dec 2019, with notes that they were not the same people, and that John Frederick Dwyer had been created to separate them. Contributor dorothiemariegrover1 merged the Ryan husband (G4HT-R7J) back into L6KD-V4D on 19 Sept 2024. A further merge was made on 22 Sept 2026 by another contributor [D, FS change log].
- The two men cannot be one person: the tree now has children by both wives born in alternating years (Edward 1851 and Michael 1857 by Shanahan; William 1854 and Margaret 1857 by Ryan), and both families appear in the 1860 census in different states [D].
- Result: the 1895 death, the Faribault burial, the 1880 and 1875 Rice County records, the Waseca 1860 census, "Frederick," and the "born 15 Aug 1816 Gowran" all belong to, or were attached to, the Rice County man or are unsupported. Disproven for Cornelius's father. See Part Three for the repair.
Children (with Mary Ryan)
- Mary Ellen (b. 21 Mar 1848, Canajoharie, per tree; 11 in 1860) [C/D].
- Michael J. (b. 4 May 1849, Ireland - d. 25 June 1935, the Bronx; shoemaker, widowed) [D]. His death record names his parents as John Dwyer and Mary Ryan, both born in Ireland. He is not in the 1860 or 1870 households, and an Irish birth in May 1849 is hard to fit with a daughter born in New York in March 1848. Possible.
- William (b. about 1851-1854, Ohio) [D]. The tree has him dying 28 July 1937 at Indianapolis; a Kentucky death index entry for a William Dwyer who died at Covington in 1920 also names parents John Dwyer and Mary Ryan [D]. Which, if either, is this William is open.
- Mary Ann (b. about 1853-1855, Moriah, NY); married John McCauley in Vermont, 7 Jan 1879; the marriage record names her parents as John Dwyer and Mary Ryan [D]. Probable (name, age, birthplace and parents all fit).
- Margaret (b. about 1856-1857) [D].
- Catherine "Kate" (b. about 1858-1859); Mrs. Dalton; died 23 Oct 1908, Butte, Montana, aged 49; the death record names her parents as John Dwyer and Mary Ryan [D]. Probable.
- John J. (b. about 1860); married Sarah A. Corbett at Butte, 1 Oct 1905; the record names his parents as John Dwyer and Mary Ryan [D]. His age on that record (41, or 35 in a second entry) is off by several years. Probable.
- Cornelius Sylvester (1862).
Open questions: John's death and burial (Renville County, after 1885); his occupation before 1880; the 1865 New York state census; the Catholic baptisms of his children at Canajoharie, Moriah or Port Henry, and Black Brook or Au Sable Forks, which would name sponsors and might give a parish of origin; any naturalization.

9. Mary Ryan (c. 1822/1827 - after 1885)
Vital facts
- Born in Ireland. Her age in the records: 33 in 1860 (c. 1827); 48 in 1870 (c. 1822); 49 in 1875 (c. 1826); 54 in 1880 (c. 1826); Mary Dwyer born c. 1823 in 1885 [D].
- Maiden name Ryan: from Cornelius's California Death Index entry and from the records of several of her other children (Mary Ann, Kate, John J., and possibly Michael and William) [D]. These are secondary information, supplied by informants long after her death, but they come from different children in different states and agree [I]. Proven.
- Died after the 1885 Minnesota census, when she was living at Bandon Township with John [D]. The tree's "died 1885, Wells Township, Rice County" comes from the merged Rice County man and is Disproven as stated.
Unsupported claims on the tree
- Born 21 Feb 1825 at Kilbeg, Cappawhite, Co. Tipperary; parents Connor Ryan (b. c. 1799) and Kitty Darcy (b. c. 1803), both "of Cappawhite." Neither she nor her parents carry any source for these facts [D, FS]. Possible only.
- Married 1847 at Freshford, Co. Kilkenny: no source on the relationship, and no such record found [D, FS]. The 1847 date came over from the Ryan husband's former profile in the 2024 merge [I, change log].
- For scale: one page of search results in the Irish Catholic registers indexed on FS gave about fourteen distinct John Dwyer and Mary Ryan marriages between 1812 and 1862, all in Co. Tipperary, three of them in the right years: 4 Feb 1845 at Anacarty and Donohill, 23 May 1847 at Knockavilla, and 14 Sept 1849 at Clonoulty [D, index]. Without another clue (a sponsor, a townland, a sibling's record giving a county) none of them can be chosen.
Possible kin: Anne Ryan, 28, boarding with the family at Cohoes in 1875; Patrick Ryan, 60, born Ireland, "partner" in Cornelius's household at Turlock in 1910 [D]. Relationships unknown.
Sources: as for John Dwyer; FS L6KD-NNB (sources and change log read); KCP9-3P7, KC9Y-XH6 (no sources).
16-17. The Kilkenny claim: Martin Dwyer and Mary Walsh
What the records show [D, Ireland Catholic Parish Registers, index read]:
- Gowran parish, Co. Kilkenny, baptisms of children of Martin Dwyer and Mary Walsh: Thomas, 30 Aug 1813; Patrick, 17 Nov 1814; John, 15 Aug 1816; Edmund, 16 Apr 1818.
- Thomastown parish, Co. Kilkenny: Mary Walsh, born 27 June and baptized 28 June 1791, daughter of Richard Walsh and Mary Dowling.
What the tree does with them: makes the 1816 John into "John Frederick Dwyer," and so into Cornelius's father, and makes the 1791 Mary Walsh into Martin's wife.
Assessment. The baptisms are real records. No record found connects the Gowran John to either American John Dwyer: the identification rests on the name and an approximate birth year, and John Dwyer is one of the commonest names in Kilkenny and Tipperary [I]. The Thomastown Mary Walsh is a separate identification by name. Possible only for Cornelius's grandfather; not to be treated as his ancestry until a record ties them. Gowran and Freshford are both in Co. Kilkenny, while the unsourced Ryan claims point to Co. Tipperary; the family's actual origin is open.

Part Two (continued): Martha Tisdell's family
10. Henry C. Tisdell (c. 1836/1840 - 1918)
Vital facts
- Born in Ireland. His age in the records puts his birth between 1836 and 1840; the 1900 census gives May 1840; his death record gives age 82 (c. 1836) [D]. Curtiss-Wedge (1916) has him 78 at the time of writing (c. 1838) [C].
- Birthplace candidates: (a) a Henry Tisdall baptized 25 Apr 1837 at St Andrew's, Westland Row, Dublin, son of Thomas and Anne Tisdall [D record; the identification is Possible]; (b) Find a Grave gives Laois (Queen's County) with no source [C]. Neither is established.
- Immigration: 1850 (1900 census), 1858 (Curtiss-Wedge), 1863 (1910 census) [D/C, conflicting].
- Married 22 May 1860, St. Louis, Missouri, Elizabeth Connolly ("Henry Eisdell" in the Missouri marriage index) [D index]. The 1900 census gives 39 years married.
- Died 29 Dec 1918, New Ulm, Brown County, MN (death certificate 2056) [D index]. Buried St. John's Catholic Church Cemetery, Morton, Renville Co. [C, FaG 68735404].
Life
- 1865 Minnesota census: Burnsville, Dakota Co. In the household: Henry, Martha A., Thomas H., a "Brigg" or "Briggit" (O'Leary?), James McDonald, Mike Connelly (Elizabeth's brother, see section 11), and Elizabeth (last line of the left-hand page, per a note on FS) [D].
- U.S. land tract book entry, 30 May 1868 [D index].
- Came to Renville County in 1870 and homesteaded 160 acres on section 16, Birch Cooley Township, where he farmed until 1910 [C, Curtiss-Wedge vol. II, pp. 1117-1118, Edward Tisdell biography].
- Censuses 1870, 1875, 1880 (farmer), 1895, 1900 (Morton village area), 1905, 1910: Birch Cooley [D].
- From 1910 he lived on the home farm with his son Edward, who rented it [C, Curtiss-Wedge].
- Died at New Ulm at the end of December 1918; cause not seen.
The 1870 household and a probable nephew. In the 1870 census the children in Henry's household are indexed as "George Chisom, 10, born Pennsylvania," then Martha, Thomas, Sarah and Joseph "Chisom" [D, index read]. In 1875 the same boy is "George Tisdele, 14, born New York" [D]. Curtiss-Wedge's biography of Joseph Chisholm (vol. II, pp. 1122-1123) says Joseph was born at St. Paul on 20 Mar 1865, son of George Chisholm, a bricklayer who died in 1866 aged 30, and Bessie (Tisdell) Chisholm, who died in 1868 aged 30, and that Joseph was raised by his mother's sister, Mary A. Quill, of Cedar Lake, Scott County [C]. Elizabeth Tisdell's ten children (1900 census) can all be named without George [D/I]. Probable: George was George Chisholm, an orphaned nephew, which would make Bessie Chisholm and Mary A. Quill Henry's sisters [I]. The 1870 image should be checked.
Children (censuses; death indexes attached on FS) [D/C]: Martha Ann (1863); Thomas Henry (c. 1865 - 1941); Sarah Lucy, Mrs. Tracy (1866/67 - 1937, Arizona); Joseph (c. 1868-1872 - 1945); James (c. 1871 - 1952); Mary (Mary Margaret Dey, c. 1873 - 1968, California); William (c. 1874 - 1953); Ella (Ellen Wicks, c. 1876 - 1947, Washington); Edward "Ned" (1878 per 1880 census, or 7 June 1880 per Curtiss-Wedge - 1951); Frank (May 1882). Ten children, nine living in 1900 [D].

11. Elizabeth Martha Connelly (c. 1839/1840 - 1913)
Vital facts
- Born about 1839-1840, London, England [D, death record; 1900 census gives June 1839, England].
- Came to America in 1850 [D, 1900 census]. The tree adds an arrival at Boston, 26 July 1850, on the ship Anglo American, without a source [C].
- Married Henry Tisdell, 22 May 1860, St. Louis [D index].
- Died 11 July 1913, Lakeville Township, Dakota Co., MN (death certificate 3187) [D index]; FaG has 10 July. Buried St. John's, Morton [C, FaG 68735288].
Parents
- Her death record names her father as Thos. Conally; the mother's surname is indexed as "Burchis" (one index shows "Conally Burchis") [D, index; image restricted on FS].
- Her brother Michael Thomas Connelly, born 1836 at Manchester, England, died 12 Mar 1913 in Lakeville Township; his death record names his father as Thomas [D index]. He died four months before Elizabeth, in the same township.
- 1857 Minnesota territorial census, Dakota Co. (Township 27, Range 24, the Burnsville and Lakeville area): Jas Connolly, 28, born Ireland; M. C. Connolly, 22, born England; Elizabeth Connolly, 16, born England [D]. A "Mike Connelly" was in Henry Tisdell's household in 1865 [D].
- Taken together: a Connelly family with a son born in Ireland about 1829, a son born at Manchester about 1835-36 and a daughter born in London about 1840, who reached Dakota County by 1857 [I]. Father Thomas: Probable.
- The tree's parents, Thomas O'Donnell (c. 1790 - 1854, Manhattan) and Mary Lonergan (1809 - 1847, Perth, Ontario), conflict with her death record on both names and with her brother's birthplace, and the source attached for them concerns a Johannah O'Donnell in Massachusetts in 1899. Disproven.

Vital facts
- Born 7 Jan 1872, Fairfield, Clay County, Nebraska [D, Oregon death record for the place; C for the day]. The Fairfield town site was laid out in 1871-72 [C, Andreas 1882], so the place may have been named after the fact [I].

- Indian Wars pension: application indexed 1917, Missouri; his widow Anna M. Flynn also applied; pension payment cards (1907-1933) mark him "Army invalid" [D, index]. The Indian Wars pensions were for service in the Army's frontier campaigns of 1817-1898 [C].
- Died 11 Mar 1921, Buchanan County, Missouri (Missouri death certificate 6112, per FaG); buried Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph [C, FaG 116085341].
- Censuses give his birthplace variously as Canada and Ohio [D].
Children (FaG): John Henry (1870-1954), William Clifford (1872-1952), Thomas Lafayette (1873-1958), Winifred Ann (1875-1941), Maud Margaret (1879-1966), Bertha G. (b. 17 Jan 1882, Clay Co.; married 1920 at Salt Lake City), Paul Ignatius (1883-1911) [C/D].

13. Anna Mary (Annie) Owens (1845 - 1935)
- Born 22 Nov 1845, Pennsylvania [C]; died 19 May 1935, St. Joseph, Missouri [C]. Married James M. Flynn 1870 [D]. Applied for his Indian Wars pension as widow [D]. FaG 151207208; FS K468-HQ8.
24-25. John Flynn (c. 1801/1802 - after 1861) and Ann Murray (c. 1809/1814 - 1883)
- Named as James's parents in his 1847 baptism [D]. On the FS tree with the 1851 and 1861 censuses of Canada and Downeyville church records [C; not read in this pass]. Ann M. (Murray) Flynn's FaG memorial gives 1809-1883 [C].
- Peter Robinson candidate. The 1825 emigration list of the ship Brunswick (from Cove, Cork, 5 May 1825) includes William Flyn, 60, a "reduced farmer" of Mallow, Co. Cork, with John, 24, and Daniel, Mary, Johanna and Nancy; William Flyn died in Emily Township on 12 Sept 1826 [C, IGP archives; kennytree.com Peter Robinson settler list]. A John Flyn born about 1801 from Co. Cork, settled with his family in Emily, fits the tree's John Flynn (b. 1802, Co. Cork) on age, county and township [I]. Possible, pending a record that links them (a land record, a census, or a church record naming William).
- No Ann Murray appears in the Robinson settler lists [C].
26-27. Henry Owens (c. 1780 - 1870) and Leah
- Henry Owens: on the tree from the 1860 and 1870 censuses; died 30 Nov 1870, Nebraska [C]. Not examined further.
- Leah Owens: widowed, 70, born Ohio, "mother-in-law" in James M. Flynn's household in 1880 [D]. The tree's "Katrina Leah Hubler" maiden name has only census sources [C]. Possible.
Part Three: FamilySearch tree problems and suggested corrections
Nothing has been changed on FamilySearch. These are suggestions to weigh.
- L6KD-V4D "John Frederick Dwyer" (merged). Restore the separation: the Ryan husband (formerly G4HT-R7J) should carry Mary Ryan, Cornelius and the Ryan children, and the 1860 and 1870 Black Brook, 1875 Cohoes, 1880 Birch Cooley and 1885 Bandon records. L6KD-V4D should keep Mary Bridget Shanahan, Timothy, Edward, George John, Michael, the Waseca 1860 and Rice County 1875 and 1880 censuses, the 1895 death and FaG 86747524. FamilySearch supports restoring a merge from the person's change log, or the two can be rebuilt by hand. Leave a reason statement citing the 1860 censuses in two states.
- Martin Dwyer and Mary Walsh as parents of either John: no linking evidence. At most a note on the Rice County man; detach from the Ryan husband.
- Mary Ryan (L6KD-NNB): death 1885 Wells Twp to "after 1885"; add the 1885 Bandon census; flag the unsourced Kilbeg birth and Connor Ryan/Kitty Darcy parents.
- Edwin C. Dwyer (LHKD-HQ6): birth to 8 July 1897, Birch Cooley Twp, Renville Co.; marriage to 26 Nov 1935, Multnomah Co., Oregon; attach the WWI and WWII cards, the 1905 Minnesota census and the 1950 census.
- Raymond P. Dwyer (LHKD-HJH): detach as a child of Edwin and Winifred (he is Edwin's brother); birthplace Montana; his "died before 2008, Minnesota" is a placeholder.
- Elizabeth C. Dwyer (L6KD-RL4): only source the 1930 census; the 1898-2000 dates have no basis. Review before keeping.
- Cornelius S. Dwyer (9N4X-NXK): detach the "Cornelius Francis Dwyer" FaG source (born California 1888); attach the 1870, 1875 and 1880 records.
- Martha Veronica Dwyer (K638-2ZZ): the 1893 New York Mills birth conflicts with the 1895 census and her later ages.
- Elizabeth Connelly (LHVJ-7LC): detach Thomas O'Donnell and Mary Lonergan; keep Thomas Connelly (L62W-LNL) as father, citing her and her brother's death records; detach the Johannah O'Donnell source.
- Winifred (9N76-Z7J): the 1994-1999 Long Beach "Winnifred A. Flynn" residence is very probably another woman.

Part Seven: Records to obtain next
In rough order of value.
- Cornelius S. Dwyer's California death certificate (1941) and Martha's (1947): birthplace (Black Brook or Troy), parents' names, informant, and the family's own account.
- The three obituaries in full: Seattle Times 12 Sep 1969 p. 70 (also to settle the "retired 1944" reading), Seattle Times 2 June 2003, San Francisco Chronicle 20 Oct 1941.
- Kate (Dwyer) Dalton, died Butte 23 Oct 1908: her obituary in the Butte Miner or Anaconda Standard (both on Chronicling America) may name her parents' county in Ireland and her brother Cornelius; also the Montana death certificate.
- Catholic baptisms of John and Mary's children in New York: Canajoharie (1848), Port Henry or Moriah (c. 1853-1855), and Au Sable Forks or Keeseville (for Black Brook, 1856-1862, including Cornelius in March 1862). Baptismal sponsors are the best route to the Ryan and Dwyer families' Irish origins.
- Renville County records: the 1882 marriage (County Recorder, or the Minnesota Official Marriage System at moms.mn.gov); births 1885-1905; deaths of Mary Elizabeth and James Joseph (March 1889) and William (1891); the deaths of John and Mary Dwyer; the Catholic burial registers for Morton and the Birch Cooley mission (Diocese of New Ulm).
- Henry and Elizabeth Tisdell's Minnesota death certificates (1918 no. 2056, Brown Co.; 1913 no. 3187, Dakota Co.), from the Minnesota Historical Society; Henry's obituary (New Ulm Review, Jan 1919, on Chronicling America; Morton Enterprise).
- The 1860 St. Louis marriage of Henry Tisdell and Elizabeth Connolly (St. Louis Recorder of Deeds or the Catholic parish), which may name witnesses or parents.
- The 1870 Birch Cooley census image, to read the "George Chisom" entry.
- Seattle Polk city directories, 1936-1990 (Seattle Public Library), and Washington Secretary of State corporation records, for the Edwin C. Dwyer Company's address, officers and dates; identify the Harry W. Brintnall Co.
- Edwin's WWI service: the VA BIRLS entry and any California or Army service card (the 1973 NPRC fire destroyed many Army records of this period).
- James M. Flynn's Indian Wars pension file (National Archives) and his 1865 enlistment register image; his Missouri death certificate (no. 6112, 1921), free at Missouri Digital Heritage.
- Emily Township, Ontario: 1851 and 1861 censuses for John Flynn and Ann; Downeyville (St. Luke's) baptisms; Peter Robinson land records for William and John Flyn.
- Anna Paulson's emigration (Swedish emigration databases such as Emibas, Gothenburg police registers, 1891).
- Patrick Ryan (b. c. 1850, Ireland, arrived 1870), Cornelius's 1910 "partner" at Turlock: any record naming his parents or county.
# Dwyer and Associated Families: Master ResearchResearch file for the Dwyer line from Jerome Edwin Dwyer back through Edwin Cornelius Dwyer, Cornelius Sylvester Dwyer, and John Dwyer and Mary Ryan, with the families that married in: Tisdell and Connelly (Martha Tisdell's side), and Flynn, Paulson and Owens (Winifred Flynn's side). One section per person: vital facts, how the link to the parents is supported, the life as the records show it, anecdotes and notable details, spouse and children, open questions, and sources. The tree outline is in Part One; FamilySearch problems are collected in Part Three.**Last revised:** 5 October 2026 (first edition).**Ratings.** Used where they matter, not on every line.- How we know it: **[D]** Documented (a primary record, or an index or transcript of one); **[C]** Compiled (an online tree, Find a Grave, a county history); **[I]** Inferred (our own reasoning from the records); **[T]** Tradition (family memory, no record).- How sure we are, for links and disputed points: **Proven**, **Probable**, **Possible**, **Disproven**.**Abbreviations.** FS, FamilySearch (tree IDs like L56K-15K; record IDs like 1:1:MVP9-3RM; image IDs like 3:1:33S7-9RJ5-HTS). FaG, Find a Grave. MN, Minnesota. "Index read" means the indexed entry was read but not the image; "image read" means the page itself was examined.**Spellings met in the records:** Dwyer, Dwire, Dwyre, O'Dwyer; Tisdell, Tisdale, Tisdele, Tisdall ("Tisdow" in family memory); Connelly, Connolly, Conally, Conley; Flynn, Flinn, Flyn.---## What this pass found1. **Edwin C. Dwyer was born 8 July 1897, not 1901.** His WWI draft card (Aug 1918), the VA master index, his WWII draft card (Feb 1942), and his Find a Grave memorial all give 8 July 1897; every census from 1910 to 1950 agrees within a year. The FS tree's 1901 is wrong.2. **The Edwin C. Dwyer Company was a printing-machinery business, run by Edwin and Winifred together.** Edwin's 1969 obituary says he came to Seattle from San Francisco in 1935 and started a printing-machinery sales and service firm that year. This fits the family memory of Winifred running the books and office while Edwin did the hands-on work.3. **Edwin and Winifred married 26 Nov 1935 in Portland, Oregon**, where her parents lived (Multnomah County marriage register, vol. 76, p. 453; image read). The FS tree's "1935 California" is wrong as to place.4. **The FS tree has merged Cornelius's father with a different man.** "John Frederick Dwyer" (d. 1895, buried Calvary, Faribault) was the husband of Mary (Shanahan) Dwyer of Cannon Lake, Rice County. Cornelius's father was **John Dwyer, husband of Mary Ryan**, found at Black Brook, Clinton Co., NY (1860, 1870), Cohoes, NY (1875), Birch Cooley Township, Renville Co., MN (1880) and Bandon Township, Renville Co. (1885). A FamilySearch contributor separated the two men in 2017-2019 with "DO NOT MERGE" notes; another contributor merged them again in Sept 2024. The Kilkenny ancestry on the tree (Gowran baptism 1816, parents Martin Dwyer and Mary Walsh, Freshford marriage 1847) has no record tying it to Cornelius's father.5. **Mary Ryan is confirmed as Cornelius's mother** by his 1941 California death index entry (mother's maiden name Ryan) and by records of four of his siblings that name their parents as John Dwyer and Mary Ryan. Her Irish origin is not established.6. **The Dwyers and Tisdells were next-door neighbors in 1880.** Both households are on the same census page in Birch Cooley Township; Cornelius (18 in 1880) married Martha Tisdell (16 in 1880) about two years later.7. **Martha Tisdell's mother, Elizabeth Connelly, has the wrong parents in the tree.** Her own 1913 death record names her father as Thomas Connelly (mother's surname indexed as "Burchis"); her brother Michael Thomas Connelly was born at Manchester, England. The tree's Thomas O'Donnell and Mary Lonergan (who died in Manhattan and in Perth, Ontario) are unrelated.8. **Winifred Flynn's Swedish line is documented.** Her mother Anna Mary Paulson was born in Sweden in December 1871, came over in 1891, and was the daughter of Nels Paulson and Christine Anderson, both born in Sweden (Oregon death record, 1942).9. **Winifred's grandfather James Murray Flynn** was baptized in Ontario in Sept 1847, son of John Flynn and Anne Murray; enlisted in the U.S. Army at St. Louis on 16 Oct 1865 at age 18; and later drew an Indian Wars pension. A John Flyn, aged 24, of Mallow, Co. Cork, came to Emily Township, Ontario, with the Peter Robinson settlers of 1825; he is a candidate for James's father (**Possible**).10. **Cornelius's Montana interval (about 1906-1908)** coincides with two of his siblings living in Butte (his sister Kate Dalton died there in 1908; his brother John J. married there in 1905). His son Raymond was born in Montana about 1907.---## Part One: The tree in outlineNumbered from Jerome (1). Jerome Edwin "Jerry" Dwyer (1939 - 2015)**Vital facts**- Born 25 June 1939, Seattle [D, obituary; FS]. In the April 1940 census as "Jerome E," age 0 [D].- Married 15 Oct 1961, Shoreline, King County, Patricia Ann Hatten (5 June 1940, Seattle - 16 Oct 2009, Seattle) [C, FS; record not seen]. His obituary says they were married 49 years, which does not fit a 1961 marriage and her 2009 death (48 years); loose wording [I].- Died 27 April 2015, Seattle, aged 75 [D, obituary]. Buried at Shoreline (FaG 146029243, Holyrood Cemetery per the FaG index) [C].**Link:** **Proven** (1940 and 1950 censuses in Edwin and Winifred's household; both parents' obituaries; his own).**Life**- 1940 census: Tract B-4, Seattle, with parents and sister Patricia (3) [D].- 1950 census: Seattle, age 10, with parents and sister [D].- Blanchet High School, Seattle, in its first graduating class, as was Patricia Hatten [D, obituary].- Living at Alderwood Manor in 1969 [D, father's obituary index].- Worked in the family firm. His obituary describes the Edwin C. Dwyer Company as the "family printing machinery business" [D, Seattle Times, 10 May 2015, via legacy.com].- By 2003 his mother was described as the company's retired owner [D], so Jerome's ownership, if he had it, came after his mother's retirement [I].- Funeral Mass, Christ the King Catholic Church, 405 N 117th St, Seattle, Friday 15 May 2015; Harvey Family Funeral Home [D, obituary].**Family memory and the records.** Family memory has Jerome later starting "his own franchise" of his father's San Francisco printing company in Seattle [T]. The records found so far point to a single family business founded in Seattle in 1935 by Edwin, worked in by Winifred, later owned by Winifred, and worked in by Jerome [D]. No record of a separate franchise or of a San Francisco firm has been found. Seattle city directories and Washington corporation records would settle it.**Children** (as named in his obituary): Lynn (Mrs. John Ellingwood), Eric, Jennifer. Eight grandchildren named there, among them Jordan, Ross and Lauren. Sister: Patricia Mulka.**Open questions:** the 1961 marriage record; when Jerome took over the company and when it closed; whether he served in the military (not mentioned in the obituary).**Sources:** Seattle Times obituary, 10 May 2015 (legacy.com, pid 174779965; paraphrased); 1940 census (FS 1:1:K933-6XR); 1950 census (FS 1:1:6X14-WQF4 household); Edwin C. Edwin Cornelius Dwyer (1897 - 1969)**Vital facts**- Born 8 July 1897, Minnesota [D, three records]. Place: "Redwood Co., Minnesota" on his 1918 draft card; "Birchcorley [Birch Cooley], Minn." on his 1942 draft card [D, images read]. Birch Cooley Township is in Renville County, on the Redwood County line. The FS tree's 8 July 1901 is wrong.- Married 26 Nov 1935, Multnomah County, Oregon, Winifred Flynn [D, Multnomah County marriage register index, vol. 76, p. 453, "Dwyer, Edwin C. ... 11-26-35 ... S. Dwyer, same address.- Eyes gray, hair black.- WWI service: the VA master index carries a service entry dated 8 May 1919, Turlock [D, index]; his obituary calls him an Army veteran of WWI [D]; the 1950 census marks him a WWI veteran [D]. Unit and dates of service not found.- 1920: at home in Turlock, age 22, single [D].- 1930: not found under his own name. His parents' San Francisco household lists a "daughter Elizabeth C., 32, single, born Minnesota" and a "son Edward C., 25" [D, image read]. Edwin was 32 in 1930. Whether "Elizabeth C." is Edwin written in error is open; see Cornelius's children (section 4).- 1935: living in San Francisco (1940 census residence question) [D].- 1935: married Winifred Flynn in Portland in November; moved to Seattle that year and started a printing-machinery sales and service firm (obituary, as transcribed on FaG) [D].- 1940 census: Seattle (Tract B-4), age 42, with Winifred, Patricia (3) and Jerome (newborn) [D].- **14 Feb 1942, WWII draft registration**, Local Board No. 4, Seattle [D, image read]:- Residence: 5605 6th Ave. S.W., Seattle.- Born 8 July 1897, "Birchcorley," Minnesota.- Contact who will always know his address: **Mrs. C. Brintnall Co., 2306 3rd Ave., Seattle**.- 5 ft 8 in, about 155 lb, brown eyes, brown hair, light complexion.- Other obvious marks: **end of the second finger of the left hand missing** ("End off of second finger left hand").- **1950 census**, Seattle [D, index read]:- Edwin, 52: proprietor, own business, industry "Printing Machine"; worked 48 hours the previous week, 52 weeks the previous year; WWI veteran.- Winifred, 48: stenographer, same industry; worked 40 hours; class of worker "NP," the 1950 code for working without pay in a family business.- Patricia, 13; Jerome, 10.- Obituary, Seattle Times, 12 Sep 1969, p. 70 (transcribed on FaG; summarized here):- Came to Seattle from San Francisco in 1935 and started a printing-machinery sales and service firm that year.- Army veteran of World War I.- Member of the Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society and the Craftsmen's Club. The Craftsmen's Club was very probably the Seattle club of the International Association of Printing House Craftsmen [I].- Residence 5605 Sixth Ave. S.W.- Rosary at Hoffner's Fisher-Kalfus chapel; Requiem Mass at St. Alphonsus.- Survivors: wife Winifred I.; son Jerome E. (Alderwood Manor); daughter Mrs. Patricia Mulka (Seattle); brother Raymond (San Bruno, CA); sisters Agnes Boudinot, Nell Golden (Redwood City) and Veronica Newman (Sacramento).- The summary of the transcription gives his retirement as 1944, which conflicts with the 1950 census showing him running the business full time. Not resolved; the original page should be read.**The company.** What is documented [D]: a printing-machinery sales and service business in Seattle, founded 1935 (obituary); Edwin proprietor and Winifred working in it in 1950 (census); Winifred its retired owner by 2003 (obituary); Jerome working in it (obituary). What is not yet explained: Edwin's 1942 employer, Harry W. Brintnall Co. of 2306 3rd Ave., not identified. Family memory places a Dwyer printing company in San Francisco first [T]; nothing found supports or rules that out. Winifred worked for "paper jobbers" in San Francisco in 1930 (section 3), so both had ties to the printing trade before they married [I].**Spouse:** Winifred I. Flynn (section 3).**Children:** Patricia M. (b. 1937, Washington; Mrs. Mulka by 1969); Jerome Edwin (1939-2015). The FS tree also attaches Raymond P. Dwyer (LHKD-HJH) as their child; Raymond was Edwin's brother, born in Montana about 1907, and should be detached from Edwin and Winifred.**Open questions:** WWI service record (unit, dates); his whereabouts and work in 1930; the Harry W. Dwyer Co. of Seattle"; Rosary and funeral Mass at St. Alphonsus Church; remembrances to the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, in care of Sr. Joan Flynn, SNJM, The Dalles, Oregon [D].- Family memory: she kept the books, the numbers and the budget of the business while Edwin did the hands-on work [T]. The 1950 census and her obituary agree with this [D].- An index of public records (1994-1999) places a "Winnifred A. Flynn" in Long Beach, California [C]. This is very probably another woman [I] and should not be attached.**Siblings** (FaG family links; censuses) [C/D]: James William (1896-1983); Col. Place within New York: his parents were at Black Brook, Clinton County, in 1860 and 1870, so Black Brook is likely [I]; his son's 1918 draft card gives his father's birthplace as **Troy, New York** [D, secondary information]. The family was at Cohoes, next to Troy, in 1875. **Open.**- Married Martha Ann Tisdell, about 1882. The FS tree gives 2 Oct 1882, Birch Cooley Township, with no source [C]. The 1930 census gives his age at first marriage as 20 and hers as 18, which fits 1882 [D].- Died 18 Oct 1941, San Francisco [D, California Death Index, which names his mother's maiden name as Ryan]. No death or burial found.**Link to Cornelius:** **Proven** (section 4).**Where the family lived**- About 1848: Canajoharie, Montgomery County, New York (daughter Mary Ellen's birth, per FS tree) [C].- About 1852-1854: Ohio (son William's birthplace in 1870 and in the tree) [D/C].- About 1853-1855: Moriah, Essex County, New York (daughter Mary Ann's birthplace on her 1879 marriage record) [D]. The iron mines at Mineville in Moriah were being opened in earnest from 1853 [C, Adirondack History Center].- 1860 census: Town of Black Brook, Clinton County, New York [D]. John 47, Mary 33, Ellen 11, William 9, Mary Ann 7, Margaret 4, Kate 2, John 0.- 1870 census: Black Brook [D]. John 47, Mary 48, William 18 (born Ohio), Mary A. 17, Margaret 13, Catharine 12, John 10, Cornelius 8. Black Brook was the seat of the J. & J. Rogers iron works (forges, charcoal kilns and some 50,000 acres) [C, Watson 1869 via localwiki; Clinton County Historical Association].- 1875 New York state census: Cohoes, Albany County [D]. "John O Dwyer" 55, Mary 49, William 21, Maryanne 19, Margaret 18, Catherine 16, John 14, Cornelius 12, and two boarders, **Anne Ryan, 28, and Hanora Cahill, 15**. Cohoes was the home of the Harmony Mills, then the largest cotton-mill complex in the country, with a workforce largely of young Irish and French-Canadian women [C, Wikipedia]. The occupations on the 1875 page have not been read.- 1880 census: Birch Cooley Township, Renville County, Minnesota [D]. "John Dwire" 63, farmer; Mary 54; John 20; Cornelius 18. The Henry Tisdell household is on the same page.- 1885 Minnesota census: Bandon Township, Renville County [D]. John 71; Mary 62.**The FamilySearch merge.** The tree person L6KD-V4D, "John Frederick Dwyer," now combines two men:- **John Dwyer of Cannon Lake and Wells Township, Rice County, MN**, husband of Mary Bridget (Shanahan) Dwyer (1827-1907): 1860 census at Vivian, Waseca Co. (with Timothy, Edward, John, Michael); 1875 Minnesota census at Wells; 1880 census at Wells (John 67, Mary 67, Michael 21); died 1 Dec 1895 at Wells, aged 79; buried Calvary Cemetery, Faribault (FaG 86747524, whose biography quotes a 1938 parish history on Mr. and Mrs. John (Shanahan) Dwyer settling near Cannon Lake in 1855) [D/C].- **John Dwyer, husband of Mary Ryan**, the man above.- The change history shows contributor Foleydb separating them in Sept 2017 and Dec 2019, with notes that they were not the same people, and that John Frederick Dwyer had been created to separate them. Contributor dorothiemariegrover1 merged the Ryan husband (G4HT-R7J) back into L6KD-V4D on 19 Sept 2024. A further merge was made on 22 Sept 2026 by another contributor [D, FS change log].- The two men cannot be one person: the tree now has children by both wives born in alternating years (Edward 1851 and Michael 1857 by Shanahan; William 1854 and Margaret 1857 by Ryan), and both families appear in the 1860 census in different states [D].- **Result:** the 1895 death, the Faribault burial, the 1880 and 1875 Rice County records, the Waseca 1860 census, "Frederick," and the "born 15 Aug 1816 Gowran" all belong to, or were attached to, the Rice County man or are unsupported. **Disproven** for Cornelius's father. See Part Three for the repair.**Children** (with Mary Ryan)- Mary Ellen (b. 21 Mar 1848, Canajoharie, per tree; 11 in 1860) [C/D].- Michael J. **Possible.**- William (b. about 1851-1854, Ohio) [D]. The tree has him dying 28 July 1937 at Indianapolis; a Kentucky death index entry for a William Dwyer who died at Covington in 1920 also names parents John Dwyer and Mary Ryan [D]. Which, if either, is this William is open.- Mary Ann (b. about 1853-1855, Moriah, NY); married John McCauley in Vermont, 7 Jan 1879; the marriage record names her parents as John Dwyer and Mary Ryan [D]. **Probable** (name, age, birthplace and parents all fit).- Margaret (b. about 1856-1857) [D].- Catherine "Kate" (b. about 1858-1859); Mrs. Dalton; died 23 Oct 1908, Butte, Montana, aged 49; the death record names her parents as John Dwyer and Mary Ryan [D]. **Probable.**- John J. (b. about 1860); married Sarah A. Corbett at Butte, 1 Oct 1905; the record names his parents as John Dwyer and Mary Ryan [D]. His age on that record (41, or 35 in a second entry) is off by several years. **Probable.**- **Cornelius Sylvester** (1862).**Open questions:** John's death and burial (Renville County, after 1885); his occupation before 1880; the 1865 New York state census; the Catholic baptisms of his children at Canajoharie, Moriah or Port Henry, and Black Brook or Au Sable Forks, which would name sponsors and might give a parish of origin; any naturalization.**Sources:** 1860 census, Black Brook (FS 1:1:MC78-KNM; image 3:1:33SQ-GBS4-ZMM); 1870 census, Black Brook (FS 1:1:M8FX-V85); 1875 NY census, Cohoes (FS 1:1:VTDC-7BM); 1880 census, Birch Cooley (FS 1:1:MZ9L-CGP); 1885 MN census, Bandon (FS 1:1:MQXP-5SB, MQXP-5S1); siblings' records: NYC Municipal Deaths (FS 1:1:2WGB-83H), Vermont Vital Records (FS 1:1:XFXT-HLZ), Montana County Births and Deaths (FS 1:1:QKNR-WP45), Montana County Marriages (FS 1:1:F3SR-C8C), Kentucky Deaths (FS 1:1:N9RM-4HM); Rice County man: 1860 census Vivian (FS 1:1:M4LP-XYS), 1880 census Wells (FS 1:1:MZ9L-P8T), MN County Deaths (FS 1:1:7PB8-DYW2, QPWP-HXHZ), FaG 86747524 (read); FS L6KD-V4D change log (read).---### 9. Mary Ryan (c. 1822/1827 - after 1885)**Vital facts**- Born in Ireland. Her age in the records: 33 in 1860 (c. 1827); 48 in 1870 (c. 1822); 49 in 1875 (c. 1826); 54 in 1880 (c. 1826); Mary Dwyer born c. 1823 in 1885 [D].- Maiden name Ryan: from Cornelius's California Death Index entry and from the records of several of her other children (Mary Ann, Kate, John J., and possibly Michael and William) [D]. These are secondary information, supplied by informants long after her death, but they come from different children in different states and agree [I]. **Proven.**- Died after the 1885 Minnesota census, when she was living at Bandon Township with John [D]. The tree's "died 1885, Wells Township, Rice County" comes from the merged Rice County man and is **Disproven** as stated.**Unsupported claims on the tree**- Born 21 Feb 1825 at Kilbeg, Cappawhite, Co. Tipperary; parents Connor Ryan (b. c. 1799) and Kitty Darcy (b. c. 1803), both "of Cappawhite." Neither she nor her parents carry any source for these facts [D, FS]. **Possible** only.- Married 1847 at Freshford, Co. Kilkenny: no source on the relationship, and no such record found [D, FS]. The 1847 date came over from the Ryan husband's former profile in the 2024 merge [I, change log].- For scale: one page of search results in the Irish Catholic registers indexed on FS gave about fourteen distinct John Dwyer and Mary Ryan marriages between 1812 and 1862, all in Co. Tipperary, three of them in the right years: 4 Feb 1845 at Anacarty and Donohill, 23 May 1847 at Knockavilla, and 14 Sept 1849 at Clonoulty [D, index]. Without another clue (a sponsor, a townland, a sibling's record giving a county) none of them can be chosen.**Possible kin:** Anne Ryan, 28, boarding with the family at Cohoes in 1875; Patrick Ryan, 60, born Ireland, "partner" in Cornelius's household at Turlock in 1910 [D]. Relationships unknown.**Sources:** as for John Dwyer; FS L6KD-NNB (sources and change log read); KCP9-3P7, KC9Y-XH6 (no sources).---### 16-17. The Kilkenny claim: Martin Dwyer and Mary Walsh**What the records show** [D, Ireland Catholic Parish Registers, index read]:- Gowran parish, Co. Kilkenny, baptisms of children of Martin Dwyer and Mary Walsh: Thomas, 30 Aug 1813; Patrick, 17 Nov 1814; **John, 15 Aug 1816**; Edmund, 16 Apr 1818.- Thomastown parish, Co. Kilkenny: Mary Walsh, born 27 June and baptized 28 June 1791, daughter of Richard Walsh and Mary Dowling.**What the tree does with them:** makes the 1816 John into "John Frederick Dwyer," and so into Cornelius's father, and makes the 1791 Mary Walsh into Martin's wife.**Assessment.** The baptisms are real records. No record found connects the Gowran John to either American John Dwyer: the identification rests on the name and an approximate birth year, and John Dwyer is one of the commonest names in Kilkenny and Tipperary [I]. The Thomastown Mary Walsh is a separate identification by name. **Possible** only for Cornelius's grandfather; not to be treated as his ancestry until a record ties them. Gowran and Freshford are both in Co. Kilkenny, while the unsourced Ryan claims point to Co. Tipperary; the family's actual origin is open.**Sources:** FS 1:1:62DR-FX86 (John, 1816), 62WK-2NYZ (Thomas, 1813), 624Z-JJVC (Patrick, 1814), 62B3-7GS8 (Edmund, 1818), 6VYX-FZBJ (Mary Walsh, 1791); FS MHZ7-JKG, MHZ7-J2X.---## Part Two (continued): Martha Tisdell's family### 10. Henry C. Tisdell (c. 1836/1840 - 1918)**Vital facts**- Born in Ireland. His age in the records puts his birth between 1836 and 1840; the 1900 census gives May 1840; his death record gives age 82 (c. 1836) [D]. Curtiss-Wedge (1916) has him 78 at the time of writing (c. 1838) [C].- Birthplace candidates: (a) a **Henry Tisdall baptized 25 Apr 1837 at St Andrew's, Westland Row, Dublin, son of Thomas and Anne Tisdall** [D record; the identification is **Possible**]; (b) Find a Grave gives **Laois (Queen's County)** with no source [C]. Neither is established.- Immigration: 1850 (1900 census), 1858 (Curtiss-Wedge), 1863 (1910 census) [D/C, conflicting].- Married 22 May 1860, St. Louis, Missouri, Elizabeth Connolly ("Henry Eisdell" in the Missouri marriage index) [D index]. The 1900 census gives 39 years married.- Died 29 Dec 1918, New Ulm, Brown County, MN (death certificate 2056) [D index]. Buried St. John's Catholic Church Cemetery, Morton, Renville Co. [C, FaG 68735404].**Life**- 1865 Minnesota census: Burnsville, Dakota Co. In the household: Henry, Martha A., Thomas H., a "Brigg" or "Briggit" (O'Leary?), James McDonald, Mike Connelly (Elizabeth's brother, see section 11), and Elizabeth (last line of the left-hand page, per a note on FS) [D].- U.S. land tract book entry, 30 May 1868 [D index].- Came to Renville County in 1870 and homesteaded 160 acres on **section 16, Birch Cooley Township**, where he farmed until 1910 [C, Curtiss-Wedge vol. II, pp. 1117-1118, Edward Tisdell biography].- Censuses 1870, 1875, 1880 (farmer), 1895, 1900 (Morton village area), 1905, 1910: Birch Cooley [D].- From 1910 he lived on the home farm with his son Edward, who rented it [C, Curtiss-Wedge].- Died at New Ulm at the end of December 1918; cause not seen.**The 1870 household and a probable nephew.** In the 1870 census the children in Henry's household are indexed as "George Chisom, 10, born Pennsylvania," then Martha, Thomas, Sarah and Joseph "Chisom" [D, index read]. In 1875 the same boy is "George Tisdele, 14, born New York" [D]. Curtiss-Wedge's biography of Joseph Chisholm (vol. II, pp. 1122-1123) says Joseph was born at St. Paul on 20 Mar 1865, son of George Chisholm, a bricklayer who died in 1866 aged 30, and **Bessie (Tisdell) Chisholm**, who died in 1868 aged 30, and that Joseph was raised by his mother's sister, **Mary A. Quill**, of Cedar Lake, Scott County [C]. Elizabeth Tisdell's ten children (1900 census) can all be named without George [D/I]. **Probable:** George was George Chisholm, an orphaned nephew, which would make Bessie Chisholm and Mary A. Quill Henry's sisters [I]. The 1870 image should be checked.**Children** (censuses; death indexes attached on FS) [D/C]: Martha Ann (1863); Thomas Henry (c. 1865 - 1941); Sarah Lucy, Mrs. Tracy (1866/67 - 1937, Arizona); Joseph (c. 1868-1872 - 1945); James (c. 1871 - 1952); Mary (Mary Margaret Dey, c. 1873 - 1968, California); William (c. 1874 - 1953); Ella (Ellen Wicks, c. 1876 - 1947, Washington); Edward "Ned" (1878 per 1880 census, or 7 June 1880 per Curtiss-Wedge - 1951); Frank (May 1882). He died four months before Elizabeth, in the same township.- 1857 Minnesota territorial census, Dakota Co. (Township 27, Range 24, the Burnsville and Lakeville area): **Jas Connolly, 28, born Ireland; M. C. Connolly, 22, born England; Elizabeth Connolly, 16, born England** [D]. A "Mike Connelly" was in Henry Tisdell's household in 1865 [D].- Taken together: a Connelly family with a son born in Ireland about 1829, a son born at Manchester about 1835-36 and a daughter born in London about 1840, who reached Dakota County by 1857 [I]. Father Thomas: **Probable.**- The tree's parents, **Thomas O'Donnell (c. 1790 - 1854, Manhattan) and Mary Lonergan (1809 - 1847, Perth, Ontario)**, conflict with her death record on both names and with her brother's birthplace, and the source attached for them concerns a Johannah O'Donnell in Massachusetts in 1899. **Disproven.****Sources:** Minnesota Deaths (FS 1:1:ZW7V-L33Z) and Minnesota Death Records (FS 1:1:FD9P-N8S); Michael Thomas Connelly (FS 1:1:ZWWX-1CPZ); 1857 MN territorial census (FS 1:1:38GJ-SW2; image 3:1:939Z-YG9N-JK); 1900 census (FS 1:1:M932-H1V); FaG 68735288 (read); FS LHVJ-7LC.---## Part Two (continued): Winifred Flynn's family### 6. On the FS tree with the 1851 and 1861 censuses of Canada and Downeyville church records [C; not read in this pass]. Ann M. These are suggestions to weigh.1. **L6KD-V4D "John Frederick Dwyer" (merged).** Restore the separation: the Ryan husband (formerly G4HT-R7J) should carry Mary Ryan, Cornelius and the Ryan children, and the 1860 and 1870 Black Brook, 1875 Cohoes, 1880 Birch Cooley and 1885 Bandon records. Leave a reason statement citing the 1860 censuses in two states.2. **Martin Dwyer and Mary Walsh** as parents of either John: no linking evidence.
