Children: Abigail (1713), Thomas (1715), Adam (1724), Joseph (bp. 1726), Stephen (1729) and Nathan (1730). Named "Thomas Varney, brother" in his son-in-law Caleb Low's will.
Hammatt: "Thomas Varney, son of Corp'l Thomas, was Constable in 1726." His mother was Abigail (Proctor) Varney, so he was a nephew of John Proctor, hanged in 1692. Mollie makes Abigail Proctor his wife; she was his mother, and his wife was Abigail Cogswell.
Open questions
- Caleb Low's will of 1773 names "Thomas Varney, brother." The colonial tree reads him as Caleb's brother-in-law, that is Abigail's brother Thomas (b. 1715), not this Thomas, who would have been ninety in 1773 and Caleb's father-in-law. The page follows the earlier reading; check the will.
