Of Gloucester. On 17 Oct 1752, "Joshua Riggs, guardian of Jonathan Stanwood, non-compos mentis, petitioned the court to be allowed to sell Jonathan's property to pay his debts." The debts exceeded the estate by £22-9-4. After Jonathan died in 1760, Joshua sold a further piece of his land (Bolton, Stanwood Family, p. 40). The ward, Jonathan Stanwood (b. 27 Sept 1696), was a son of Jonathan Stanwood and Mary Nichols, which made him a first cousin of Joshua's father-in-law, James Stanwood (inference from Bolton's numbering).
Eleven children were recorded at Gloucester, 1737-1758 (Gloucester VR 1:578-584, with Mollie Pfeiffer's differing dates): Susanna, Dec 6, 1737; Experience, Sept 19, 1739; Joshua, Aug 20, 1741 (Mollie Aug 16, 1740); Abraham, Dec 10, 1743; Mary, Oct 20, 1745 (Mollie Apr 20); Ann, Jan 17, 1747; James, May 28, 1750 (Mollie May 23); William, Mar 31, 1752 (omitted by Mollie); Mark, Sept 21, 1754; Martha, Dec 20, 1756 (d. Dec 25, 1756); Lucy, May 9, 1758.
