- note
- FamilySearch's candidate: Hannah, born at Gorham, Maine, 20 Jan 1786, to Benjamin Brown and Sarah Phinney (McLellan, History of Gorham, p. 415). For it: the year; a family that came from Eastham, which could explain "Cape Cod"; a brother named Isaac Cole Brown; and Gorham and Pownal both in Cumberland County. Against it: McLellan has her born at Gorham and does not say whom she married. Possible, no better.

- Born 1769, married Hannah Russell, died at Bethel 1819. The Bethel records give "Benjamin & his wife Hannah" children only from 1798; a New Hampshire family with no Cape Cod tie, and a father 16 or 17 in 1786. Very probably not hers.

- Wife of Benjamin Brown of Bethel; see her father.
Wife of Richard Ellingwood (1790-1864), married in 1809 (the family Bible, per Gray; source), and the mother of his nine or ten children. With him at Clay Township, Dearborn County, in 1850, aged 64 and born on Cape Cod (record), and at Manchester in 1860 (record). The Ancestry tree recorded her only as Hannah Ellingwood.
Open questions
- Her parents. Her Cape Cod birth would fit a family that knew the Holdershaws of Eastham; the Gorham Browns had land from a George Brown of Eastham. No Hannah Brown of the right age is in the Harwich or the printed Eastham records. Cumberland County probate of Benjamin Brown of Gorham, Gorham or Pownal town records naming "Hannah Ellingwood," or the source of FamilySearch's "Sept 1809, Pownal" marriage would settle it. The Bethel family is in the town records (record).
- Her death.
