What it says

Known from three copies, none of them the record itself (research file source R25):

  • JoEllen (Reed) Ingram’s typed transcription, posted on Ancestry by joellenreed on 15 March 2012. It opens: “This will was filed and recorded January 6th 1845.” James Reed “of the county of Morgan in the State of Indiana,” in “perfect health,” gives “unto my two sons Elisha Reed and James Reed my plantation where on I now dwell known as being a part of the South West quarter of section Seventeen Township Eleven North of range one East containing One Hundred and three acres,” being “the residue of the afore said quarter section of land belonging to me after what I have here after conveyed to my other sons.” He revokes all earlier wills. Dated “this Nineteenth day of July 1836.”
  • Coy D. Robbins’s abstract of the will as recorded in Deed Book J, p. 522 (his entry #50): the two sons are Elisha and John.
  • JoEllen Reed’s handwritten notes: John.

As transcribed, it names no wife, no daughters, no executor and no witnesses, and deals only with the home farm. JoEllen Reed has been told the courthouse no longer has the original; it survives as recorded in Deed Book J, which is on microfilm and was not viewable online on 27 September 2026. The deed book page would settle whether the second son is John or James.
