What it says
A typescript of Deer Isle family records. The compiler is not named on the pages read; on the Low pages the compiler calls Thomas T. Low “my grandfather.” It quotes the Deer Isle town records and copies family papers.
The Low family Bible (Low Family pp. (1)-(2)). A Philadelphia Bible of 1802 published by Mathew Carey, inscribed at the end of the New Testament: “This book was purchased Anno Domino 2 April 1801 By Lucy Choate” (the compiler noted that the edition is of 1802, so the date is wrong; she was Lucy Choate only from 1817). It records:
- Marriages: Nathan Low and Lucy Lord, 17 Jan 1765; Eben Lord and Lucy Low, 25 Apr 1808.
- Births: “Nathan Low, Senior, b. 1 Oct. 1741”; Lucy Lord, 25 Aug 1746; “Nathan Low, Jr. b. 18 Oct. 1765” and his nine brothers and sisters (Caleb’s year as 1770).
- Deaths: Eben Lord, 1810 (21 May); Josiah Choate, 30 Mar 1822, aged 75; Daniel Lord, 11 Jul 1819, in his 77th year; “Miss Mary Lord, d. 28 Jan 1826 in 94th year of age (called an old maid).”
- Later Deer Isle entries for Thomas T. Low’s family, including “Nathan Augustus Low, d. 20 Mar. 1872,” and Thomas T. Low’s death, 17 Oct 1881.
- A note of family tradition, the informant given as Emma Damon Eaton: “Old Nathan fought in Revolutionary war and killed by falling off apple tree. His son Nathan Jr. was Major.” It was then with Thomas T. Low’s descendants on Deer Isle.
Other Low entries. The East Boxford baptisms of Lucy (18 Aug 1793) and Mary (30 Aug 1795), daughters of “Nathan Low Jr.”; “One of the above girls md. – Elkins”; a news item of December 1900: “Mrs. Joseph Patridge, of St. Paul, Minn., died of consumption on Dec. 6, 1900. She was the youngest sister of Capt. Roland Lowe and leaves a husband and nine children. She has 4 sisters living.” Series 2 quotes the Deer Isle record “Nathan Low of Boxford & Rebekah Thompson of D. I. pub. Oct 1 1792” and gives William Low’s marriage to Mary Eaton, 9 Mar 1835.
The Thompson family (pp. (13)-(15)). Thomas Thompson and Mary Foster’s children with Deer Isle birth dates: Jane, 30 Jun 1768; Mary, 22 Jun 1770 (published to Joseph Sellers 23 Feb 1799); Rebecca, 12 May 1772; Martha, 16 Oct 1774; Adam, 26 Apr 1776; Elizabeth, 5 Nov 1781 (published 1800 to Nathaniel Kennison); Thomas, 11 Apr 1784; Abigail May, 20 Aug 1786 (m. 1805 John Howard Jr.); John, 26 Mar 1789. Also a Roxbury baptism of a son Thomas, 11 Jan 1767 (First Religious Society); the 1790 census household (3 sons under 16, 5 females); “taxed for a poll in 1817 and for R. and P. only after that to 1826”; and from the town records, “Thomas Thompson deceased 26 March (year torn)” and “Widow Mary Thompson Deceased March – 1837.”
