Printed transcript of the Portsmouth town records, read in the archive.org full text. Used for Richard and Jane Hawkins:

  • A house lot granted to Richard Hawkins in 1639, “to buld on” within a year or forfeit it; in 1648 he and Philip Sherman chosen “to viwe the Cattell that are sould uppon the Iland before thay be transported of the Iland”; juror in 1649 and 1650.
  • Deed of gift, 14 Dec 1644: “I Richard Hawkins of portsmouth in the Isle of Rhods Tanner” gives “all that my now dwelling house with Thirty Acres of grownd” to his son Job Hawkins, “after the Decease of me the Said Richard and Jane my wife, that is to Say owne ffather and Mother to the Said Job” (pp. 418-419).
  • On 25 Aug 1656 “Jane Haukines late wife to Richard Haukines aforesaid deceast” assented to a deed of her son Job’s land to Robert Dennis, signing “hir marke” (p. 327).
  • On 19 June 1658 Thomas Brooks’s land at Portsmouth was bounded on the west “by the land of the widdow Hawkins” (p. 353).
