What it says

The funeral home’s “Record of Funeral” for Cornelius S. Dwyer, entered 18 October 1941. Read from A screenshot of the image (5 October 2026); doubtful readings are marked [?].

  • Deceased: Cornelius S. Dwyer, married; wife Martha H. Dwyer, 78 (Ancestry indexes her as Martha A.). Residence and place of death 138 Edinburgh St.
  • Charge to: John T. [?] Dwyer, 372 [street not read]. Order given by Mrs. John Boudinot.
  • Occupation: dairy rancher, retired.
  • Died 18 Oct 1941, about 2 p.m. Born 19 March 1862; age 79 years, 6 months, 29 days. Birthplace Jackson Hill, New York. In the state 32 years.
  • Cause of death: chronic myocarditis, 10 years. Physician William R. Vizzard [?], 2410 18th Ave.
  • Father John Dwyer, born Ireland. Mother’s maiden name Mary Ryan, born Ireland.
  • Religion Catholic. Funeral 21 Oct 1941 (Tuesday), services at Corpus Christi; cemetery Holy Cross. Total of the bill $180.05.
  • Death notice pasted on the page: “DWYER.—In this city, October 18, 1941, Cornelius S., loving husband of Martha Dwyer; beloved father of Mrs. [Agnes] Boudinot, Mrs. [Veronica] Newman, Mrs. [Nell] Golden and Henry, Edwin, Lawrence, John and Raymond Dwyer; brother of Margaret Dwyer.” The funeral on Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. from the Gantner, Felder, Kenny chapel, then Corpus Christi Church and Holy Cross Cemetery. (The notice is small in the image; the given names in brackets are from the family’s other records.)

The informant is not named. Mrs. John Boudinot, who gave the order, is very probably his daughter Agnes, wife of Edgar John Boudinot. “John T.” may be his son John F.: T and F are easily confused. “Jackson Hill” has not been found in New York: the family was at Black Brook, Clinton County, in 1860 and 1870, and his son Edwin’s 1918 draft card says Troy.
