What it says

WikiTree profiles read through the WikiTree API for the Hatten research (October 2026): Atherton-74 (Elizabeth Atherton), Mather-77 (Timothy Mather), Mather-184 (Richard Mather) and Wise-984 (Katharen Wise). Compiled; what they abstract from records has not been seen here.

  • Atherton-74: “Elizabeth was first wife of Timothy Mather, and she was the mother of all of his children … Some older resources call her ‘Catherine Atherton’.” Baptized 28 Sept 1628 at Winwick, Lancashire (“Elizab Atheron, 28 Sep 1628, dau. of Humphry,” FindMyPast’s Cheshire parish baptisms); died 15 May 1678 at Dorchester. Administration of Maj.-Gen. Humphrey Atherton’s estate was granted to “Jonathan Atherton, his eldest sonne, and Timothy Mather, James Trowbridge and Obadiah Swift, three of his sons-in-law” (NEHGR 10:361); Humphrey’s probate names “Elizabeth Mather” among his heirs, “no Catherine.”
  • Mather-77: Timothy Mather, born about 1628 at Liverpool; came in the James, 1635; married (1) “Catherine/Elizabeth [Atherton] (1628-1678) by 1650/51” (Torrey); (2) Elizabeth (____) Weeks, widow of William Weeks, 20 March 1678/9; died 14 Jan 1684. A deed of 23 July 1686 (Suffolk Deeds 54:127) by “Richard Mather and Katharine his wife, and Joseph Mather, all of Dorchester,” and their brother and sister at Windsor, children of Timothy Mather, yeoman, confirms a deed of 10 May 1673 from “our Father” Timothy Mather and “Elizabeth Mather our Mother.”
  • Mather-184 and Wise-984: Katharen Wise, baptized at Roxbury 10 Oct 1658, daughter of Joseph Wise and Mary Thompson (Roxbury VR 1:389; Anderson, TAG 56:80-82), married Richard Mather (born 20 Dec 1653, christened 25 Dec) on 1 July 1680 at Dorchester; their children Timothy (1681-1755), Elizabeth (1682), Samuel (1683/4-1725) and Joseph (1686-1749). It gives her death as about 12 Sept 1686 at Lyme, citing Find a Grave memorial 203844807.
