License, 4 May 1920: John R. Morilon, of East Helena, Montana, aged 38, white, born at Leavenworth, Kansas; “Was previously married (Widower)”; son of John Morilon and Clara McClelland. And Elizabeth M. Paulson, of Belt, Montana, aged 21, white, born at Mitchell, South Dakota; not previously married; daughter of Ole Paulson and Bertha Johnson. “(Not related).” Signed F. L. Reece [?], district clerk, by Hugh R. Law [?], deputy.
Certificate: married at Helena on the 5th of May 1920 by a clergyman, James F. McNamee [?], in the presence of Ole B. Paulson and Bertha J. Paulson. Filed for record May 1[5?], 1920.
He is the man of the 1910 marriage in Seattle (born in Kansas, parents John Morilon and Clara McClellan) and of Douglas’s birth at Helena in 1916. Maud Noel was alive (she died in 1986), so “widower” was not true. Either he hid a divorce, or there was none and he said he was widowed in order to remarry. If there was no divorce, Maud was still his lawful wife in 1920-1923, and could not lawfully have married Richard Holbrook.
