From the research files. The biography of Sept 1918: carpenter from about 14, teacher, deputy clerk of the Iroquois County court 1873-75; “He began the study of medicine July 10, 1871. The sudden death of his father, a few months later, threw the entire support of the family” on him; “in 1875, his mother having died, he was able to complete his medical studies”; seven children, one dying in infancy; “His parents were of Puritan stock.” His 1919 presidential address. The obituary editorial of Sept 1920: “Dr. Ellingwood was tall and slender, growing heavier in later years, and had the bearing of a scholar and man of affairs”; “In his own family he maintained a musical orchestra.”
