- The Low mansion and mill: John Hale “built the late ancient Low mansion about 1750, and a few years later erected the saw-mill”; by 1772 it was “Hale’s new mill.” “About the same time it came into the possession of Nathan Low (father of Gen. Solomon Low), and was kept in the family until the death of Major William Low (son of Gen. Low) in 1870” (p. 198). “Lowe’s … mill-pond” among Boxford’s ponds.
- Nathan Low among Boxford men “stationed at New York for two months,” and among those “stationed for two months at Winter Hill” (pp. 229-230).
- Gen. Solomon Lowe: general of the Second Brigade, Second Division, Massachusetts militia, September 1820 to April 1840; representative 1823, 1827, 1828 and 1841; gave the East Parish meeting-house bell; married four times. “The remains of Gen. Lowe lie in his tomb in Harmony Cemetery. The tomb has attracted many visitors, because of the pictures of himself and his four wives, which are engraved on marble tablets, and placed upon the face of the tomb” (p. 359).
