Montana certificate of birth: Douglas Noel [Morilon], Helena, 25 Aug 1916 (and the Lewis and Clark County register)

Found on Ancestry, 9 Oct 2026, as a hint for Maud Holbrook.

The certificate (State of Montana, Form V.S. No. 12), in hand:

• Born Aug. 25, 1916, at Helena, Lewis and Clark County (“L & C”).
• Child: “Douglas Noel,” a boy, white, living; the mother’s 2nd child. No surname is written; “Douglas” is struck through in red and written again in red in the margin.
• Parents: John Wendall Morilon, white; Maud Elizabeth Noel, white (her maiden name, as the form asks).
• Residence: 1512 Lewis [?] St., Helena, Mont. (the first reading is “Lewit”; the county register has “Lewis”).
• Father’s occupation: sanitary inspector, E. H. Smelter (the East Helena smelter [?]).
• Father’s birthplace: “Levenworth, Kansas.” Mother’s birthplace: “Bradewood, Ill.” (Braidwood, Illinois).
• Received at Helena, Montana; signed W. A. Peck [?], M.D. Filed Aug. 28, 1916, by W. C. Riddell, registrar. Clerks’ numbers on the card: “CC 6-1278” [?] in pencil and “6-8423” [?] in red.

The county register (image 519), Record of Births, filed under C: Helena; “Corilon, Douglas Noel,” male, 2nd child, Aug. 25; father “John Windall Corilin,” 1512 Lewis St., born Leavenworth, Kan., “San. Insp. E. H. Smelter.” The clerk misread the M of Morilon as C, and Ancestry indexes him as “Douglas Noel Corilon.”

A Douglas aged 7 at Richard Holbrook’s death on 22 Sept 1923 was born between late Sept 1915 and 22 Sept 1916, and this Douglas fits. He is the Douglas of Pollock, Richard’s stepson, as ruled on 9 Oct 2026 (research/decisions.md; threads/richard-holbrook-second-family.md).
