What it says
“The parish registers of Great Amwell in Hertfordshire show that a Richard Warren married an Elizabeth Walker on 14 April 1610” (p. 82). Prints in full the will of Augustine Walker of Great Amwell (1613), which names “my daughter Elizabeth Warren wife of Richard Warren … and unto her three Children Marey, Ann and Sarey Warren.” Argues that this is the Mayflower couple: the three granddaughters are the passenger’s first three daughters in the same order as in the 1627 cattle division; Mary (Warren) Bartlett’s age at death puts her birth about 1610; Ann (Warren) Little’s 1672 deposition puts hers about 1612. “No baptisms of any children of this couple are recorded in the Great Amwell parish registers.” Also Elizabeth’s baptism at Baldock, Sept 1583 (p. 84), and the argument that Augustine’s wife Mary (Stringer) was not her mother. Davies notes that the will carries “three marks made by Augustine Walker, all quite different” (78:85-86 and n. 28), and quotes the Great Amwell register’s notes of 1603 on Susan Addams and “Marye surnamed Fanchurch, a child of the hospitall in London” at Augustine Walker’s house (Doree p. 80).
The identification is now the accepted one (Johnson, Anderson, GSMD, Pilgrim Hall). The addendum (78:274-275, on Dorothy (Walker) Adams) has not been read.
