Thankful Bennett
Wife of Lt. Joseph Bennett Jr. of Middleborough and mother of Lucy (Bennett) Ellis. Widowed in 1741/2, she administered his insolvent estate and in 1746 sold it at public vendue to Seth Samson, whom she probably married in 1758. Her maiden name was perhaps Sproat.

Wife of Lt. Joseph Bennett Jr. of Middleborough (“Joseph Bennet Junr & … Thankfull his wife” in the births of their children) and mother of Lucy (Bennett) Ellis. As administratrix of his insolvent estate she reported that his personal estate was “not Sufficient for the payment of his just debts,” obtained leave of the Superior Court to sell land, and sold it at public vendue to Seth Samson of Middleborough, “the highest Bidder” (recorded 18 Dec 1746). She married Samson in 1758. Weston’s catalogue of First Church members, no. 273: “Thankful Bennet, m. 1724, 2d. m. Seth Samson 1758, o. Sproat.”
