Notes
Son of Orlando H. Clifford and Delila: “Henry C,” 15, born Indiana, in his father’s household in Livingston County, Missouri, in 1850 (see his father’s page). His name in full and his dates come from the Ancestry tree.
A letter to Professor O. C. Marsh of Yale, written at “Craw Bute, eight miles East of Red Cloud agency,” on 13 March 1875, is attached to him in another Ancestry tree, which says it reports the finding of a Brontotherium. The writer had wintered “snow[ed] in on the Neibrie [Niobrara] River South East of Spotted Tail agency, my selfe, my Brother and Shelly [?] and two hired men,” and moved to White River near Spotted Tail in late February (record). Only the first page has been seen, without the signature; that the writer is this Henry fits his death at Gordon, Nebraska, near the old agencies.
