Elizabeth Churchill
Wife of Capt. Joel Ellis, at Plymouth and then Middleborough, where she died in 1753; her stone at the Cemetery at the Green calls her "Madam Elisabeth Elles." Through her, the eldest child of Sgt. John Churchill Jr. and his first cousin Rebecca Delano, the family probably descends from Philip Delano of the Fortune and, twice, from William Pontus of the Leiden congregation. Probably the mother of Matthias Ellis.

Notes
The eldest child of Sgt. John Churchill Jr. and Rebecca Delano. Wife of Capt. Joel Ellis, at Plymouth and then Middleborough. Her stone at the Cemetery at the Green reads: “In Memory of Madam Elisabeth Elles Wife of Cap. Joel Elles Who Died April 3 1753 in the 66th Year of Her Age.”
In 1744 “We Joel Ellis & Elizabeth Ellis his Wife of the Town of Middleborough,” for “Love and good affection,” gave their son Joel of Plympton land bounded by the Winnetuxet River and Whetstone Vineyard Brook.
The Churchill Family in America (1904) has errors in her children’s entries: it writes “Matthew” for Matthias, swaps the husbands of her daughters Rebecca and Elizabeth, and gives Thomas’s birth as 1 July 1729, where the Plymouth record has 1 Jan 1728/9. It also places her husband as “Joel Ellis, of Plympton.”
Through her the family descends from Philip Delano (Fortune, 1621) and, twice, from William Pontus of the Leiden congregation: her parents were first cousins, both grandchildren of Pontus. No Mayflower line runs through her.
