Brother of Alice (Coles) Freeman, so uncle of Edmund Freeman of Sandwich. “George Coles of Amberley, yeoman, where he had lived some 23 years,” by his deposition of 30 Oct 1624 in the Chichester consistory court, so at Amberley from about 1601. Tenant of the malthouse in Amberley Castle in 1610 and 1623. Sued in 1622 by a Southwark tanner over “dealings in oaken bark” (TNA REQ 2/404/76). Trustee for the Freeman family in the settlement of 1620.
