About it

A street at Zell in 1885: a wheelwright’s shop with wheels in the loft window, a frame house, wagons, and about twenty-five people standing for the camera, from bearded men to small children. Someone in the family has lettered them A to Y and named those they could:

C possibly George Panian Sr, E/H possibly Christoph (wheelwright), F William Banwarth, J possibly Theresia Panian, K possibly Mary Panian, L Juliana Haberkorn Banwarth, N Pete Banwarth, O Anna Haberkorn Panian, P Rose Panian, Q Chlemhart (?), R George Panian Jr, S “Otto” Adolph Banwarth, T Frank (last name unknown), and V Ed (last name unknown). A, B, D, E, G, H, I, M, U, V, W, X, Y are all unknown.

J would be Theresa Panian, aged seven, later Theresa Kuchenmeister: mother of Margaret (Kuchenmeister) Hatten. The Panians had come to Zell from Royalton, Minnesota, about 1882, and left for Almena, Wisconsin, in 1896. The Banwarths were kin through the Haberkorn sisters, Anna (Mrs. Panian) and Juliana (Mrs. Banwarth).
