Insula Hvaena, sive Venusia: the island of Ven, by Blaeu
About it
The island of Ven (Hven) in the Sound between Denmark and Sweden, hand-coloured, from a Blaeu atlas. The cartouche reads Insula Hvaena, sive Venusia, à Guiljelmo Blaeu, cum sub Tychone astronomo operam daret, delineata: drawn by Willem Blaeu while he worked under the astronomer Tycho Brahe, whose observatories stood on the island. The fields, villages and fishponds are lettered in the key at the right.
The Ancestry tree has Sylvia (Anna) Pauline Paulson, mother of Winifred (Flynn) Dwyer, born on Ven on 27 December 1871 (“Landskrona, Isle of Ven”). No record seen names Ven, so it stays possible; her Swedish parish is an open question (see her page). See her page.
