Hubbard's Narrative of the Troubles with the Indians, title page, 1677
About it
The title page of the Ipswich minister William Hubbard’s history of King Philip’s War, “A Narrative of the Troubles with the Indians in New-England, from the first planting thereof in the year 1607. to this present year 1677. But chiefly of the late Troubles in the two last years, 1675. and 1676,” with a discourse on the Pequot War added. “Published by Authority” and licensed by Simon Bradstreet, Daniel Denison and Joseph Dudley on 29 March 1677, it was “Printed by John Foster, in the year 1677,” with Foster’s woodcut map of New England folded into it. Hubbard’s account of the fights of 1676, Pierce’s among them, is one of the two histories written while the war was fresh; the other, Increase Mather’s, came from the same press the year before. John Foster was a son of Capt. Hopestill Foster of Dorchester. This is a black-and-white microfilm of a copy of the Boston edition.
