Ella Browne's mother: born in Vermont in 1818, she went west with her parents to Geauga County, Ohio, about 1840, and married Dr. Marvin Chapin at Parkman, Ohio, in 1847 (source). Her brother Theron Cumins, who reached Dixon, Illinois, with "but $3 in his pocket," became the proprietor and then president of the Grand Detour Plow Company, in the village where John Deere made his first steel plow (History of Lee County, 1881, pp. 195-196). Her middle name came from her aunt, Orinda Converse. She died at Wausau, Wisconsin, on 9 December 1889 (source).
