Daniel was born at Rehoboth in March 1655, a son of John Read, whose will of 6 Jan 1679 names sons Moses, Daniel and Israel (WikiTree Read-42, citing Bowen, Early Rehoboth 3:163).
King Philip's War. He was twenty when the war came to Rehoboth. His brother John was "slain on the 26th of March, 1676," the day of Pierce's Fight, and two days later the town was burned, "forty houses and thirty barns" (Bliss, History of Rehoboth, p. 95). His brothers Thomas and Israel served under Major Bradford in the summer of 1676 (Bliss p. 117), and his father, his brother Thomas and his brother John's widow Rachel were rated for the war (Bliss pp. 117-118); see John Read. So was Joseph Peck, whose daughter Hannah Daniel married on 20 Aug 1677, in the first summer of peace in the colony (Vital Record of Rehoboth, pp. 900-901).
Their children were recorded at Rehoboth (VR p. 723): Hannah, June 30, 1678; Daniell, Jan. 20, 1680; John, Feb. 25, 1682, buried 1 Mar 1682/3; Sary, 1684; Noah, 1687; and Abigail, 1690.
