What it says
A short Latin will, transcribed in full in research/holbrook/Holbrooke-PCC-Wills-1503-1617.md
(section 3). Roger Holbroke of Chew is to be buried in the churchyard of St Andrew, Chew [Magna].
He leaves 4d. to Wells cathedral, 6s. 8d. to St Andrew’s, Chew, and 3s. 4d. to its Lady chapel,
and 6s. 8d. each to John Chelton [?] of Camerton and John Rugge [?] of Midsomer Norton. The
residue goes to his executors: “Agneti uxori mee, Johanni Storowe et Thome Holbroke filio meo,”
his wife Agnes, John Storowe, and his son Thomas Holbroke. Printed abstract in Weaver, Somerset
Medieval Wills, 2nd series (SRS 19), p. 42.
Roger is the earliest Holbroke of the Chew valley found. Whether Thomas Holbrooke of Norton Malreward (d. 1571/2) was his son Thomas, or a grandson, is open: no record joins them.
