What it says
“I Nathan Low, of Boxford in the county of Essex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Yeoman, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life …”
- To his wife Lucy: the use of one third of the real estate for life; “two cows and two sheep”; “my chaise and sleigh to her own use and disposal, together with the privilege of using a horse for all necessary purposes”; and all the household furniture “except my desk and a low chest.”
- To “my son Nathan Low two dollars in addition to what I have already given him, as his full portion of my estate.”
- To James, $50; to Daniel, $100; to William, $100; to Jeremiah, $2 “in addition to what I have given him.”
- To Solomon, all the real estate and buildings, subject to his mother’s dower, and the personal estate.
- To Joseph, “that part of the Back Pasture … lying westerly of a valley, where stones are laid for the purpose of making a wall,” and $300 in three instalments.
- A clause about his pew or share in the meeting house of the First Parish, partly lost in the transcription.
- Executors Solomon Low and Moses Dorman. Witnesses “Jacob Lofty” (as transcribed; check the image), Daniel Bodwell, Samuel Haseltine.
Son Caleb (b. 1767) is not named. A FamilySearch user note gives “Entered in Probate 6 August 1806.” The original probate file and inventory have not been seen. Found through a source a FamilySearch user attached to Major Nathan Low (M684-PQP); it belongs to his father.
