- 21 Feb 1764, the smallpox epidemic: “Mr. Richard Ellingwood and Mr. Thomas Raymond who lodge at Mr. Hitchburnes House had the Small Pox.” They “absolutely refused leaving the House and going to the Hospital” until persuaded; “Mr. Williston as ordered attended with the Sedan, in which they were carried to the Hospital at New Boston” (20:40-41). The same meeting summoned “Mr. Reviere”, very probably Paul Revere, whose household also had smallpox.
- 21 Aug 1782: “Mrs. Sarah Ellingwood approbated to retail in Cross Street” (25:189, 192).
