What it says
Read 10 Oct 2026 from the scanned pages:
- The monthly Dominion grant-in-aid to British Columbia for direct relief: $223,125 (April-June 1936) and $200,812.50 (July-December 1936) (Year Book 1937, p. 761, https://www66.statcan.gc.ca/eng/1937/193708210761_p.%20761.pdf); $150,000, $120,000 and $115,000 for the three quarters from April to December 1937 (Year Book 1938, p. 775). The grant roughly halved between spring 1936 and the end of 1937.
- Revenue per head, 1937: British Columbia $42.05, the highest of the provinces (Ontario $28.86) (Year Book 1939, p. 911, https://www66.statcan.gc.ca/eng/1939/193909850911_p.%20911.pdf).
What it shows: Ottawa’s share of BC’s relief was falling through 1936-37, and BC had the largest provincial
revenue per head in Canada. See pattullo-bloody-sunday.
