“Former Navy Officer At Shumaker Dies. Hot Springs, Dec. 2. Capt. Richard Clifford Holbrook, USNR (ret.), former resident officer in charge of construction at the Naval Ammunition Depot at Shumake [sic], died Thursday at a hospital here.

“Captain Holbrook, a native of Tacoma, Wash., commanded the 130th Seabee Battalion in the Pacific during World War II. He had also served as public works officer at the Marine Supply Depot at Albany, Ga.

“He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Richard Ellingwood of Spokane, Wash., and Miss Harriet Holbrook of Tacoma, and a brother, Phillip Holbrook of San Francisco, Cal. Funeral and burial will be at Tacoma. King Funeral Service of Tacoma has charge of arrangements.”

With a dateline of Friday, 2 December, “died Thursday” is 1 December 1955; the family tree has 30 November. It calls him a native of Tacoma, where the tree has Seattle, and gives his rank as captain in the Naval Reserve, where the family remembered him as a Seabee lieutenant.
