What it says

A paragraph from a St. Joseph newspaper. The masthead and date are not on the clipping; the item above it concerns men of the 139th Infantry. Transcribed from a screenshot:

A parcel post delivery truck driven by William C. Flynn, 1901 Holman street, was demolished at the Fifth and Hickory streets grade crossing soon after 10 o’clock today when it was struck by a Burlington passenger engine. Flynn was not seriously injured. The postman did not see the engine until it was within several yards of him, and the snow and ice made it impossible for the brakes to hold the car.

Parcel post began on 1 January 1913, so the accident is after that; it was a winter morning. The clipping is in the Gallery.

The St. Joseph Observer of 2 Feb 1918 reports the same accident, “Wednesday morning,” so the date is very probably Wednesday 30 January 1918 (source).
