What it says

The continuation of the front-page story on the shooting of Dick Holbrook. Patrolmen H. W. Howard and A. W. Elliott said they had seen “Holbrook and his companions on Second ave. a few hours previous to the shooting. The boys were intoxicated, according to their story, and they were advised to go to a restaurant and drink coffee to sober up.” Then: “Holbrook’s mother, who lives at 560 Mercer st., remained at his bedside during Tuesday night.” Unlike the Times the day before, the Star does not call her a widow. Below, “Cop Excited, Say Students”: Karlberg “is said by university students to have expressed regret,” saying “I know–I know–I shouldn’t have done it!” Page supplied 7 Oct 2026.
