What it says
“Collision. - Thursday night at about 10 o’clock, when the steamer Lewiston was a short distance from Seguin, she collided with a small [schooner] named the Paragon, belonging to Deer Isle. The officers of the steamer claim that the schooner had her light on the wrong side thus misleading them as to the course she was sailing, while her owner and master, B. F. Law, says that the lights were correctly set. The bow of the steamer cut the stern of the schooner completely off, and the schooner sank. The steamer lowered her boats and rescued the captain and his father and brother - the entire crew. The men were injured slightly, but not seriously. They were brought to this city on the steamer and to-night will be carried back to Deer Isle where they belong. The schooner was in ballast, and was valued at about $800.”
