What it says
Found 10 Oct 2026: an old black-and-white photograph of a granite block in long grass,
with a picket grave fence behind it and another stone at the right, at the Barkerville Historic
Cemetery, plot 146 (findagrave-pattullo-family). It reads:
PATTULLO / THOMAS R. PATTULLO / A NATIVE OF / ONTARIO / AND AN EARLY PIONEER OF / BRITISH COLUMBIA / BORN DEC. 16, 1837 / DIED JAN. 8, 1879
The day is worn in this photograph; Find a Grave’s transcription reads 8, and his British Columbia
death registration (1879-09-234350, as the memorial cites it) has 8 Jan 1879, “Thomas R. Pattulla,”
age 38. His obituary appeared in the British Colonist the next day (Bourdon,
article-bourdon-2015-thomas-robson-pattullo).
Thomas Robson Pattullo was the second child of Halkett Pattullo and Jane Robson, the Cariboo miner whose will left his “favourite” youngest sister Mary (Mrs. John G. Short) two thousand dollars.
