What it says
Known so far only from the search engine’s summary of the memorial and its obituary text (11 Oct 2026); the page itself refuses automated reading and is still to be seen. A screenshot would settle the details.
- Donald Orris Dorman Jr., born at Spokane, Washington, on 18 April 1922; died at his home at LaCrosse, Washington, on 20 February 2008. Buried in the LaCrosse Cemetery, Whitman County.
- Grew up at LaCrosse and graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1940. In the Second World War his plane was shot down and he was held at Stalag Luft I, near Barth, Germany; awarded the Purple Heart for the injuries he took. He stayed in the Air Force Reserves and retired as a major.
- Took a degree in agriculture at Washington State in 1948 and farmed the family’s land at LaCrosse; on the board of the LaCrosse Wheat Growers.
- A transcription of the LaCrosse Cemetery (http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~mrail/genealogy/data/cemete/wash/whitman/lacrosse/index.htm) also notes him as a prisoner of war at Stalag Luft I.
Cudge Ellingwood’s memoir agrees: Don “had been shot down and captured in December of 1944 and was
in a prison camp in Germany until the end of the war,” entered Washington State College in
October 1945, and graduated in 1948 (memoir-cudge-ellingwood-1970, scan 158).
