Printed transcript of the court’s records, read in the archive.org full text. The trial of John Godfrey of Andover, 6 March 1665/6:
- “John Godfrey being bound ouer to this Court … on the Complaint & accusation of Job Tyler & John Rimington on suspition of witchcraft”.
- The verdict: “wee finde him not to haue the feare of God in his heart … being suspitiously Guilty of witchcraft, but not legally guilty”.
- The costs: “the two prosecutors Job Tyler & Jn° Rimington shall be allowed for eleuen dayes a peece two shillings per each day a peece & that the said John Godfrey discharge the Costs of the trjall”.
Vol. 2 (https://archive.org/details/recordsofcourtof02massuoft) is used for James Hawkins, bricklayer, of Boston: at the court of 4 Aug 1635 “Mr. Hutchingson witnessed vpon oath” that “James Hawkens” took “2s 6d a day” of him for 36 days, above the legal wage, and the court ordered his forfeits levied, “& in case hee hath noe goods, his body shalbe taken & imprisoned till it be payde” (2:56-57); and on 1 Mar 1641/2 “James Hawkins for prophaining the Sabbath hee was censured to bee whipt, & bound with his Brother Thomas Hawkins in 40l, to appeare at the Generall Co’rt, & answer for venting his corrupt Opinions” (2:118).
