What it says
Downloaded from FamilySearch, 10 Oct 2026. FamilySearch files the whole film under Jefferson County, but the roll (NARA M33, roll 13) holds ten counties, Dearborn and Jefferson among them. The same film is free at the Internet Archive (https://archive.org/details/populationsc18200013unit/page/n125/mode/1up). There the heading “Manchester Township” stands on page 27, below the totals for Caesars Creek Township (leaf n121), and the township runs on to page 29, which opens with Robert McCracken, one of the brothers who settled Manchester in 1815. Checked by Claude, 10 Oct 2026. So the household is in Manchester Township, Dearborn County, as the research file has it.
“Richard Ellingwood”: free white males under 10, 1; 26 to 45, 1; free white females under 10, 3; 26 to 45, 1; and 1 in a later column, probably agriculture [?]. Six in all. That fits Richard (30), Hannah (34), their son Elijah (born Nov 1819) and the three daughters then living, Hannah, Hope and Sarah; Eliza Ann (died 1818) and Sylinda (died 1816) are not there, as they should not be.
His neighbours on the page include Daniel, Luther and Joseph Plummer, Samuel, Ebenezer, James, Reuben and Lemuel Roberts, Nehemiah Littlefield, Daniel Hersey, Elias and Matthew Milliken and John Ellis. Many are Maine names, and the county history speaks of a wave of settlers from Maine in Manchester’s first years.
